We booked a night walk hoping to see a sloth in motion and maybe an armadillo. No luck. We saw a mouse, a lizard, several frogs and toads, lots of insects, a couple of leeches, some sleeping birds, and a tarantula. My favorite was the bullet ants. They are really big.
I don't blame the guide for not finding what we were after - she could only find what was there to see. But it was rather a disappointing way to spend nearly 3 hours.

The couple that runs this tour are amazing...friendly and fun with superior knowledge of the chocolate making process from tree to candy. They take you through the entire process...hands-on! It's a rural experience...no AC or paved walkways. They have so much knowledge about the CR people, culture, ecology (esp. birds), and a general environmental awareness. They exhibit a genuine passion for what they do and their message...with an emphasis on their own pura vida, bringing joy and happiness to their lives and uplifting the lives of their community. Well worth the trip.

We’d booked our white water rafting trip a few weeks before we arrived in Costa Rica and we were really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, we had misread our confirmation email and had thought we were being picked up from our hotel. We assumed that was it and we’d missed our trip however the hotel staff liaised with the team at Sarapiqui Outdoor Center and they were able to accommodate us on the 2pm instead.
It seemed like perhaps the 2pm trip wasn’t meant to be running as Luis - our amazing instructor - said he’d brought his friend to help us row (it was just us and them!) so we got the impression they were being really kind and running it because we missed our original time. We were overwhelmed by Luis’ friendliness and knowledge of the wildlife along the river. The trip was just the right length of time and we got the chance to jump off the raft and swim too. The scenery along the river was truly stunning.
When we returned to the outdoor centre after a 15 minute car journey at the end of the rafting, we were greeted with lovely fresh fruit and coconut water. Luis also showed us how to make juice from sugar cane.
Excellent afternoon - well worth it!

Wow. So glad we did not pass on this amazing opportunity. We absolutely loved our outing. 2 activities- canopy zip lining which was breathtaking (far better than the experience we had on the pacific side) and the whitewater rafting was truly picturesque. Our guide ,Hansel, was funny, energetic, and obviously loved his job and his country. Saw some great birds, had a blast on the rapids, and no one fell out of the boat.
Tips :wear bathing suits, closed toed shoes, and GoPro for rafting.
Comfortable (pants) for zip lining and use bugspray before.
Loved this day!!!!
Buffet after was fine
