This not you regular zoo. If you want to see loads of animals in a short time: don't go here. It is however a themepark with animals. A fair amount of animals you can see in a natural habitat (as far as that is possible when living in captivity). The shows are a bit simple, but the kids (below 16) will love it. One day visit is more than enough and you will have seen everything there is to see. Expect some queues at the large attractions, just like in a 'real' themepark.

Smithson did these as a part of an exhibition in 1971. To me they seem like separate works next to one another. 45 years later it is in surprisingly good shape. Perhaps they were spruced up in 2011 for Nancy Holt's (artist who was married to Smithson) film. The quarry I. Which the work is located maintains access.
First advice: Check the English and Dutch Website and write to be certain they're open. They got back to me within two days. The street address is accurate, though my GPS stopped a few buildings away. A quick call and the manager of the quarry walked to the street to wave me in. You register at the quarry office and then drive 300 meters to the quarry. The quarry is innocuous, except for the clue that there are giant rocks out front. It seems like these are the only boulders in The Netherlands.
Once you go to the quarry there are three basic locations-- visitor's center, video room, and the art works. The visitors center has photos, daeings and articles ( mostly in Dutch). You can see a Xerox of Nancy Holt's registration form. The video is about 20 mins long and is good prep for viewing the work. Holt used her vintage footage and recent fly overs in a helicopter to make the film. Good to see this in order to appreciate the works' context. The manager came and went while I was in the visitors center and video shed. He showed me the way down to the artwork, and left me on my own.
The artworks are accessible down a short ramp of earth to the lake below. It is steep, but not difficult, and cars still drive it. From the bottom of the incline it is about a 4 or 5 minute walk along lake to a path that takes you to the works. Along the way there's some folk art made by the quarry owner out of water heaters. Just before getting to Spiral Hill there are four wire mesh rectangles filled with stones. I assumed these were Smirhson's but don't recall Reading about them. There is also a giant frame for viewing the landscape. It doesn't frame the Smithson works, and I am clueless who made it.
You enter Spiral Hill from behind (non lakeside). It's three or four turns and a very easy walk to the top. It couldn't be more than 20 feet high, but it provides an excellent view of the Broken Circle. The hill is now covered in vegetation --new from the vintage footage. In the 2011 video, it looks as if the path was covered in white sand, but no longer. The Jill's vegetation is the perfect camouflage and consequently difficult to pic out in my photos.

we spend hours over there sitting and watching the kids play I guess every kid deserves a few hours in this place from time to time.

Als ik het goed heb, noemen ze dit soort hunebed een langgraf. In tegenstelling tot het bij Emmenaren meer bekende hunebed in de Emmerdennen, ligt dit hunebed meer in de open lucht. Leuke plek voor een kort bezoek.

Dit winkelcentrum de Weiert ligt het centrum van Emmen en is het grootste overdekte winkelcentrum in Noord-Nederland.
Er zijn zo'n honderd soorten winkels van kleding, tot sport, electronica, restaurantjes,
vrijde tijdsbesteding etc.
De Albert Hein supermarkt zit niet in, maar net buiten het winkelcentrum. (Vlak bij P-garage Myriade)
Parkeren:
Rondom het winkelcentrum zijn diverse parkeerterreinen en garages.
Tips:
* Q-park Wildlands tot het winkelcentrum is 4 min lopen.
* Een prima locatie om voor of na een bezoek aan Wildlands nog even te shoppen of wat broodjes en drankjes te halen.

Het AGA museum laat de uitvindingen zien van de heer Dalen, een Zweed. Hij vond begin 1900 uit hoe je acetyleengas kon opslaan in cilinders. Deze ging hij gebruiken voor de lampen in o.a. vuurtorens, lichtbakens, treinlampen en militaire lampen. Dit onder het merk AGA. Het Zweedse bedrijf AGA maakte vele producten en was een bloeiend bedrijf. In 2000 werden ineens de aandelen opgekocht.

Eens een keer iets anders. Leuk privé museum waar de eigenaar en hele leuke leerzame rondleiding geeft. Hij weet alles over wat hij van aga in zijn museum heeft staan. Zeker de moeite waard. Komen zeker nog eens terug.

I have been at this theater many time from the age of 6 when I saw a comedy show that I still remember bits and pieces of. Lately I have been there to see some cabaret, classical music, and to see my daughter dance. The history of the place oozes all over you when you visit the dressing rooms, you just feel the spirit of all the acts that have been there, but.. Its time for a new Theater.
They are building one near the new Zoo, and it will be great. Nothing lasts forever, and in this case its a good thing.

Deze is niet bijzonder om naar Emmen af te reizen
Wel hij slecht weer kun je hier zeker iets vinden
