Myself and my partner booked the 2 hour sunset ride as soon as we arrived in Kos, we had emailed prior to going but were kindly advised to check in nearer the date as the weather is unpredictable in late October. Understandable as we have had days of rain during our stay. They gave us a choice of 3 different days to suit our needs which was perfect. The stables arranged a transfer from our hotel much cheaper than any service on the island, given it was a good 15 minutes away from our hotel, so we were much more at ease for this. On arrival, we could see animals freely roaming, we weren't sure if they belonged to the stables but we thought it was a really nice environment for them. There was also a handful of cats and dogs at the stable with wonderful natures which we were told were rescues. This goes to show their love for animals we thought. All the horses appeared very well looked after, groomed, healthy and well natured with people. The stable was also clean and well maintained. We were offered free cold drinks before and after the ride which was a nice touch we didn't expect. Before the ride, we were provided with good quality boots, gloves, riding hats, jodhpurs, riding crops and bumbags to hold phones for picture taking. All sizes were offered and a private changing area was available. This made us feel a lot more prepared for every eventuality. My partner is an experienced rider and she was given respect with her horse. Myself on the other hand, I was a bag of nerves with zero experience. I felt they selected a horse that suited me perfectly as he was very patient and well behaved. He could probably tell I didn't have a clue what I was doing. Throughout the ride we transitioned between walk, trot and canter which were nicely spaced out to allow us to get to grips with our horses. The man leading the group, (I didn't catch his name), identified straight away that I needed a little bit of instruction and he was there for me just the right amount without singling me out. He also looked after every member of the group individually, he knew my partner was a lot more comfortable so gave her the freedom to follow the group. We were in a group of 8 with 2 members of staff who led us to the beach through the dunes at varying paces where we were able to see the sunset on a slow walk back. Finally, the couple running the stable were very warm and friendly and spoke fantastic English. They both put us at ease and gave us the best aspect of our holiday - even from me who has never rode before or even considered it!! Thanks Salt Lake Stables - Josh and Caitlin

The long and hard drive, is definitely worth the visit. Glorious beach, with many places to chill. There's a small beach bar, but make sure to supply what you need, before sundown. By far the best place in Kos.

Old Byzantine fortress located in the old village of Pili, it is amazing and beautiful, one of the most beautiful places on the island.

This was one of the highlights of our week in Kos. We hired a Jeep from Kos Town and spent the day exploring villages in the mountains and this was the last place we saw. Hardly anyone else around, free to enter (though you should bring some change for the old man who watches the cars), and a fairly quick and easy ascent to the top of the ruin. Views from here are sensational - if someone else is around ask them to take a photo of you taking in the view from the giant hole in the wall, see pic below! Also, the small cafe overlooking the ruin is a great spot to rehydrate and view the castle itself. Worth the extra few steps.
