Top 9 Outdoor Activities in Lillehammer, Eastern Norway

November 3, 2021 Leonardo Torrence

Lillehammer gained international fame as the host of the 1994 Winter Olympic Games. Since then, tourism has flourished in this Norwegian city. Skiing is excellent, of course, but even non-skiers can experience the thrill of the slopes by taking a lift to the top of Lysgårdsbakken Olympic ski jump site. Explore the awesome collections and structures of the Maihaugen open-air museum or hike the Fåberg Cultural Trail to the site of ancient petroglyphs.

I have been teaching skiing for 45 years, the last 22 at Sjusjøen, near Lillehammer, Norway. I now specialise in the classic cross-country technique, having worked in several ski areas around the world. In '76 I qualified as an ISIA alpine teacher with BASI, and have worked as a guide, ski patrol, teacher trainer and ski school director. Now I am semi-retired, have written a book about my teaching system and enjoy giving beginners a solid start.

Great instructor. Loads of information, help and support. We were both amateurs, and by the end of our session we knew enough to go off for a week’s skiiing. Highly recommended.
