Visited today and the food was amazing but the nicest thing was the service. Katharine F was brilliant and made our visit perfect! The portions are huge though so come prepared to be stuffed afterwards.

The Woodstock Arms

The Woodstock Arms is situated in the beautiful town of Woodstock. Fish from Brixham, game from the Cotswold's and specials that change twice a day - brilliant food at a big happy pub near Oxford. Our idea is all about having good people, a love of whole hearted robust British cooking, locally sourced meats and a welcoming space to enjoy our wears From the Oxford sausages at breakfast to the home-cured meats and the home-baked focaccia, this is the place for nose-to-tail dining It's an old Cotswolds inn located in Woodstock Just a short stroll from the UNESCO World Heritage site of Blenheim Palace - home of the 11th Duke of Marlborough and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. In the heart of one of England's most beautiful towns and surrouded by breathtaking countryside, Woodstock offers many independent, shops offering a lively and friendly shopping experience, in that rarest of finds, a unique and very individual 'high street', where service is paramount. Woodstock is just one hour's drive from London Heathrow, 20,minutes to Oxford City centre, 19 minutes to Bicester Shopping Village, and if you just fancy a pint and a pot of chipolatas, after exploring, you're still in for a treat: the ales change daily and the chipolatas are from the pigs at there sister pub Jacob inn Inside all is airy, rustic, beautiful, with old tongue-and-groove walls and wide plank floors, books to read, chesterfields to recline on, and a fair few stuffed animals on the walls (very à la mode). Dogs doze by the fire, children tuck into baby burgers, and in summer you spill into the terrace, with waiter service tables for dining and a relaxed sunny space for drinking.

Two night stay for Blenheim Palace Triathlon. Good location in central Woodstock External impressions good but when taken to rooms very messy and restricted access. Rooms 2 & 3 on first floor, clean but basic. TV’s not working and no cleaning on second night. Generally not good value and staff and manager socially inept

A prison cell would be an upgrade

Reviewed By Gigger1975

Where do I start?……there was nowhere to park, the walls were so thin you could hear a Knat fart in the next room, the smoke alarm had a carrier bag over it and the room stank of cigarettes, there was mould on the ceiling and in the morning we found the shower to be unusable as the water temperature was so hot it would take your skin off! Now I could forgive some of this but then I found my credit card had been over charged by £70 and when I rang the hotel office they didn’t want to know!…………AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!

Mather House Bed and Breakfast

Everyone was so helpful and polite.

Reviewed By IfitaintBoeing787

I booked for my family to stay for long weekend to attend a function for a significant birthday. Arrival and departure were exactly as the proprietor had explained to me on the phone. Breakfast was great every day and every thing was exactly as shown in the information pages on the various trip websites and parking was easy and convenient directly outside. Jackie the owner was lovely and came and saw us to find out how are we were and talk to us. We really couldn't have asked for much more. I would happily return.

Recommended for a great value comfortable stay

Stayed 2 nights in Feb in a single ensuite room - simple room with good shower, lots of hot water; generous central heating. Spotlessly clean, with a comfortable small double bed; plenty of tea & coffee supplies and excellent lighting for work or reading in bed. Chose the breakfast included rate and it was very good value for a full breakfast. Looks like there is no ground floor room so you do need to climb stairs to the rooms. Pub was very quiet each night. Some traffic noise from the A338 in the morning but not enough to disturb. Easy to find.

Review of bungalow rooms 6&7

Reviewed By Poppyg2011

A group of 4 of us stayed in a bungalow. We did not expect that our accommodation would be joined to another room, only separated by one regular locked door. This didn’t feel comfortable, relaxing or peaceful, as there was a big hole under the door, and we could hear the neighbours going to the toilet and blowing their nose all night. I felt that this should be made clear on booking. The accommodation was clean, the hot tub was FAB, clean and a really good temperature. But it didn’t feel like luxury accommodation, it felt clean and practical. Communal area was very basic and wasn’t relaxing for a group. Would be nice if the room was moved around to make a more sociable seating area. Some more mirrors would be helpful too. There was a gorgeous view of the woods and a pond and we saw some beautiful birds. We had a lovely time, but not luxury, and be prepared for your neighbours, only separated by a door if your in the bungalows, wish we could have been in a lodge they looked lovely!

The Old Red Lion

We are a countryside traditional pub. Located on the main A40 main road. We stock local real ales, and are in the camera good beer guide. We serve homemade food and the local village shop within our premises. The pub over looks the village green where you can watch the Red Kites flying over, watch the local team in summer play cricket and football team in winter. There is a children play room with access to an enclosed patio area. We are near the M40 with easy access to London, Oxford, Henley-upon-Thames etc

Bike packing in the Chilterns - 2 night stay

Reviewed By tallsmall1

We used the Old Red Lion as a base for two nights as we toured the Chiltern Hills by bike (off road) for three days. This B&B has it all…..nothing was too much and we were so well accommodated. We were allowed to keep our bikes inside overnight to keep the secure. The B&B also has a pub and a village shop within it. The village shop is fantastic value for money and as a base for bike packing the location and facilities were perfect. Hot meals from the pub each night and cooked breakfast each morning and then off course snacks from the shop for the evening. From Tetsworth there is an off road or road route into the Chilterns over a few miles. The road route we originally avoided but then we realised the A40 is actually incredibly quiet for an A road and absolutely fine for cycling along. I would recommend this as a base if you were have a cycling trip too. The hosts were so welcoming and friendly. Accommodation was clean and comfortable.
