Nice Compound

Reviewed By VDlong

Hotel grounds and Mediterranean views are beautiful. But I don't think this facility lives up to the Four Seasons brand because of the inconsistent service. For example, the young lady that checked me in was very impersonal. She acted like I was bothering her by checking in. She didn't explain to me the services and facilities available at the hotel, restaurant hours, etc. But on the other hand, there are staff that are absolutely exceptional, such as the concierge staff, and the service manager at the breakfast restaurant. Sorry I forgot his name. After the first morning, he greets us warmly and enthusiastically every morning, remembers where we like to sit and our drink preferences. That's an example of top-not service. But on the other hand at the same breakfast experience we can also expect very slow service for coffee refills, or asking if we needed anything. Hence the inconsistency. It seemed like service in the morning was slow due to not enough staffing. When we went for breakfast at 09:00 there seemed to be more staff working. Breakfast opens at 07:00, which is not that early. Perhaps service runs on Tunisian-time. Cleanliness at the hotel also seemed inconsistent. On several mornings, we found that the lobby had not been cleaned up from the previous evening. There were used wine and cocktail glasses and plates still on the tables in the lobby. At the breakfast restaurant, we found food crumbs on the table and floor, water glasses had water stains. A couple of times, water tasted soapy probably from the water stains. Again the inconsistency. The hotel room itself is very nice, very spacious with generous furnishings of dining table, small working desk, small sofa, and patio lounge chairs. Bed, beddings, and bath linens are clean and fresh. Overall though we find the hotel to be a bit cold and uninviting. Probably from too much marbles and stone decor because it feels like you are in a church or mosque. It has the old-school luxury feel. Perhaps grandma finds it very familiar. The property is enclosed by high walls with patrolling guards, bomb-sweep of all vehicles prior to entering the gate, and x-ray of bags before entering the lobby, for your safety of course. There is absolutely nothing immediately outside the compound. Taxi out to La Marsa and Sidi Bou Said about 15 to 20 minutes. We highly recommend using the Bolt ride-hailing app. It's very easing and you don't even have to be able to speak to the driver. And it is very cheap compare to western taxis. It is also nice to be able to get out of the "compound" a few times and enjoy the many nice restaurants outside that cost 1/4 the cost of restaurants at the hotel.

Reason behind the hotel refused to honour their advertised price . For a country that is terribly suffering economically yet they can afford to turn business away . Total lack for professionalism please abound at any cost .

Suites Hotel Les Charmilles & Spa

Great stay and pet friendly

Reviewed By Culture7879

Great stay and very pet friendly. Both management and staff are the friendliest and kindest and determined to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The hotel-suites are interlinked with the neighboring Carthage Thalasso hotel, so there is really everything here, from great sandy beach with sunbeds to indoor and outdoor pools, fitness rooms, spa, hammam and several restaurants. Rooms are spacious and airy and well maintained, and whenever we had small things (like light bulbs or a hole in the mosquitoe-net), it was fixed immediately. Also, safety is a very high priority here. The garden is well-kept and beautifull with many flowers, beautiful palm trees and many other trees and green. Right behind the hotel is a supermarket, carwash, dry-cleaning and shops. It is easy and quick to go anywhere from here, taxis are always avilable and cheap and it takes ca. 35 minutes into city, ca 15 minutes to La Marsa Plage. It is great for a stay that combines beach life with city life and sightseeing. Also, very dog friendly. The management even put up a door so our dog didn’t run away from the terrace. Very kind and thoughtful, everybody in the hotel was so kind to the dog.

This hotel is not a hotel to be in when raining absolutely nothing to do. Not even background music day or night. 6 channels on tv all fuzzy screen 1 English film channel but half screen was covered by a satellite upgrade announcement. Seemed like a skeleton staff some doubling up jobs. 70 per cent of time found nobody on reception. 70 per cent of staff could not speak English and those who could were basic. Food just below average. It seemed like a place that was on its last legs but I did visit during Ramadan so dont know how much busier when it's not. There were 2 cats roaming round the inside of the hotel 1 was in the restaurant every lunch and dinner. Chipped glasses and soup dishes. Room cleaned nice on my second day. I read some reviews before going and thought the bad ones were exaggerated but now understand where they are coming from.......
