Mount Pleasant Hotel

How can this be considered a hotel?

Reviewed By kurtm218

This place is substandard and does not deserve to be called a hotel. When you think of a hotel, you immediately think about rooms with door numbers, a check in desk / basic information provided to guests and a certain quality or comfort about the rooms, perhaps a room and towel service or a telephone to connect you to a main desk to report any issues. This place had none of the above. The double en suite room we stayed in for two nights was insufficient but tolerable. We were out for most of our stay and the location is not too bad considering the lack of reasonably priced accommodation in the heart of Brecon Beacons. However, the room was incredibly hot, with a window that didn’t fully open and a bathroom without any proper ventilation. The lights in the room did not work and neither did the little lamp which was on the floor in the corner of the room so we were in darkness and although we did not have the time to report this, partly due to there not being anyone available to talk to in the morning before we went out, you would still expect that all of the rooms are thoroughly checked before a guest comes to stay. The walls were paper thin plasterboard too, to the point that we could even hear next door snoring. Even the shower was rather temperamental. One major gripe with the room was the lack of any surfaces, bedside lockers or a wardrobe. The chest of drawers has a tiny television and hot beverages and a kettle, so no room for any personal belongings. This chest of drawers was the only furniture in the room. The wifi seemed like it was borrowed from a neighbour as they were unsecured networks with very weak signal. The blinds were not working too well, and basic things that you would expect such as a fire safety poster and a smoke alarm were not in the room. In the bathroom, the mirror was set at about four feet up from the floor, meaning that I could only see a reflection of my torso and waist. There was a separate entrance for hotel guests, although this was not pleasant. The first corridor is like an alleyway or construction site. The process of leaving the flat for the day involves unlocking and locking three doors, which is a bit too cumbersome for ‘hotel’ guests. We did not eat breakfast here due to our disappointment with everything else. This quite simply is not a hotel and would struggle to pass as an acceptable apartment. The room is very small and to be honest, it seems like it was designed as quickly and as cheaply as possible to begin hosting guests and bringing in money. Avoid at all costs.
