Villa Lante

Reviewed By 759elib - Sydney, Australia

The design takes full advantage of the sloping site, with a sequence of fountains and channels framed by the hedges set on three terraces among trees. The contrast of architectural formality and the inherently informal- water and trees-express the spirit of Renaissance garden with the sound of the water omnipresent. Below are the twin pavilions that constitute the villa. Villa Lante is a magical place that’s difficult to tear one away

Parco dei Mostri

Reviewed By Tualie - Varese, Italy

This ghoulish park dates from the XVI century commissioned by the local lord… many oversize mythological figures and larger than life sculptures, the idea was to astonish (contrary of eyesight delighting, typical of the gardens of those days) associated to pain and monstrosity (the lord built this to cope his grief of losing his wife) . The place fell in centuries of negligence and abandonment until Spanish painter Salvador Dali brought back interest. Plenty of carpark as located outside the town of Bomarzo and wear comfy shoes. Absolutely to visit if in the area.
