The first substantial growth was as a railway town. Now it is home to many businesses, including a manufacturing plant owned by Prysmian Cables & Systems (formerly the cables division of Pirelli). Itchen Valley Country Park

A fun day out for the entire family at this outdoor park that boasts a visitor's center, plenty of walking trails, children play areas and special events.

Itchen valley is one of my Favs. The walks are nice and numerous, lots of Different parks and play trails to follow and the paths are well kept. Parking can be difficult on nice days but that's like anywhere. My negatives would be that the queue for the Cafe is always so long that I've never actually purchased anything, they would be better installing a coffee machine for takeaway. Also go ape is here and that's great fun.

Steel Tank Alehouse

My other half and I (25-30) go here regularly and we would thoroughly recommend it for the following reasons: (i) the owner (Adam) is extremely friendly, he always makes an effort to say hello and bye to everyone who comes and goes (ii) Adam is able to remember which beers we have liked and recommend suggestions based on these, a very personal touch. (iii) Adam is very knowledgable about all his beers and has a very obvious and genuine interest in what he is selling, part of the reason we trust his recommendations on the point above (iv) The beers change regularly, as a couple who like to try new things this is extremely enjoyable part of the visit, being able to try and find a potential new favourite beer! (v) the beers sold always include some local beers (often flower pots from Cheriton, Vibrant Forest from Hythe, Unity from Southampton etc) which makes the testing of new beers even more exciting given that If find a new favourite can go and visit the brewery easily. (vi) the selection of beer is fantastic, there are 6 cask, 6 tap, 1 speciality and 2 ciders (before the vast selection available in the fridge) with these changing so regularly you would struggle to find the same beers on two different visits (vii) the prices of the beer are very reasonable, a pint often will set you back around £5 for a standard strength beer (the higher strengths ones can be a bit more at around £7 to £9 a pint but well worth it if willing to pay!) which given the quality and uniqueness of the beers is very reasonable. (viii) If you don’t want to stop for a pint and just want to buy some for the weekend, there is an excellent choice of cans in the fridge (always seen Vibrant Forest and Unity beers plus a wide selection of other changing cans) and it is always possible to get a 2l milk bottle or fill your growler of your favourite tap beer! This is a place that offers a fantastic ability to experience unique beers in Chandlers Ford that in our option has no other good beer selection and even betters the options available in Southampton (Belgium and Blues, Crafty Fox etc) for a wide and ever changing selection!
