Barrington Hall

Barrington Hall sits on seven acres in downtown Historic Roswell. In the 1830s, Barrington Hall's builder, Barrington King, and his father, Roswell King, co-founded the colony which became Roswell. On your visit to Barrington Hall you will be inspired by generations of the King family, who preserved Barrington Hall for more than 160 years. They come to life in furnishings, artifacts, and stories spanning from 1838 until the city of Roswell acquired the home in 2005. On the grounds, explore the only antebellum public garden in the greater Atlanta area, along with numerous original outbuildings.

Archibald Smith Plantation Home

Hidden among the trees in historic Roswell, Georgia, sits a graceful home constructed by one of Roswell’s founding families, the Smiths. In 1838, the Smith family and 30 of their slaves left two struggling plantations along the Georgia coast to make a new start with 300 acres of cotton farmland north of the Roswell Square. Their home, built by slave labor in 1845, was preserved by three generations of the Smith family and is now open to the public as a museum. Three generations of the Smith family lived in the home and saved many of their belongings. For over 160 years, Smith Plantation stood the test of time as all around it the small mill village of Roswell transformed into a bustling metropolitan suburb. The home has since become one of the best examples of vernacular architecture, as well as cultural and historical interpretation, found in the region.

Stopped here on my birthday with some friends. Tried some of the local Variant brews. They are very good and fresh. Our server was friendly and very helpful with picking out the right beer to try. This is a brewery that I look forward to coming back to, if for nothing else, they are friendly and the beer is good. Cahmere was by far the best one we had.

Gate City Brewing Company

Gate City's two-story space is anchored in the heart of Historic Roswell. At the corner of Canton and Magnolia Streets, what used to be two Roswell mechanic shops is now a 30bbl brewhouse and 3,000 sqft taproom serving up to 20 house-brewed beers on draft. Stop in each weekend for live music, taproom exclusive beers, 6-pack tastings to-go, community-based events and an overall good time—where the history of our growing city meets the future of craft beer culture.

COOL UPDATE: I live near Gate City and there was a City of Roswell posting for changing their city status. They are looking to expand their facility into a connecting space that used to be a restaurant. They are bringing a distillery to their facility! Not sure when that will open but be sure to keep a lookout. :) This is a truly unique place to experience historic Roswell. It's it's right off of Canton Street and Magnolia. It's a nice large building with adequate parking although the same parking area is used for visitors of Canton Street. The beer is super yummy and the laid-back Vibe of visiting the brewery is a fun experience. They have live music on the weekends during the warmer months and has a very common hangout kind of vibe. What is also cool is during the summer months around the back side of the facility they have garage doors that will raise up so that people have benches and things to experience the brewery on both sides. What I'm really looking forward to is there potential expansion. There is a restaurant that recently closed on Canton Street where they are attempting to acquire that building to expand into a Distillery as well. They would be the very first Brewery / distillery in Roswell. I'm super excited to see this expansion to further include other Brewery facilities in Roswell. Be sure to add this to your list if you enjoy beer tastings, laid-back get together with friends, and finding a nice place for a beer while waiting for dinner.

Our Saturday matinee performance of “A Night Must Fall” was very well done and a timely presentation for Halloween week! Actors were extremely gifted as they presented this dark comedic tale of woe. The only downside was parking as another event was also well attended at a nearby venue and the library parking lot was fenced off due to construction had we known we would have planned to arrive much earlier. But, overall we enjoyed the play, were well pleased with customer service provided as we ordered online and came in from out of town for this special treat. We look forward to future performances offered by the Georgia Ensemble Theatre.
