It's Roswell Restaurant Week and we decided to try Vin 25. We checked out the menu (special and regular) and thought we'd have some good choices... In that, we weren't too disappointed, though the desserts weren't my cup...

We arrived at 5:30 and were told that there were too many reservations all night and would have to eat at the bar. (I was under the impression that they didn't take reservations, but that is only on the weekend. My mistake, I suppose, but...)

At this point, the tables were empty. By the time we left, there still were some empties, so we were a bit miffed at this. Granted some people eat very slowly, but I think we could have had a table and be gone by the time they were needed... Just my take.

Hubby got the spring roll, short rib, and maple flan off the Restaurant Week Menu. This cost $45. I thought it was pretty steep... I just had the short rib and 'special' tres leches doughnuts...

The spring roll was excellent. Hot, and very tasty. There were 2, so we were able to split it. Both plates of short ribs came out and the restaurant week menu's was much smaller. Hubby's flan was too mapley for me (I couldn't eat the peanut butter offering - which probably happens a lot with many people having allergies...) The doughnuts (there were 4!) were way too much! They were good, but I didn't find them very light, just rather dense. Again, just my take.

Hubby also had 2 glasses of wine and the bill came to $140 without tip and tax. I don't know. It seemed high to me. Most of the restaurant week places don't have a $45 menu.

Was the food good, yes. The place is noted for their wine and the bar is extensive and bartender very pleasant and knowledgeable. However, when you try a new place on Restaurant Week, I think you'd be deterred by the $45 menu... and we really were annoyed about the table situation. (I compare this restaurant to Spring as they both have limited space and few tables. I think that Spring might be 'cheaper' and we are usually greeted a bit nicer. It could also be that we weren't a 'regular,' but isn't that why you participate in Restaurant Week - to get new customers?)

We might try Vin 25 again...

Emidio's Restaurant

Reviewed By PeachtreeCorners2013 - Peachtree Corners, GA

We had been looking for a while for a Portuguese restaurant... a restaurant with the flavors of NJ's Ironbound Portuguese eateries. I guess we hadn't looked hard enough because Emidio's is the jewel we had been looking for and just discovered. When we walked in we could sense that this is a special comfortable restaurant: cozy warm colors, oil paintings, nice place settings, background jazz music. I felt like I passed through a gateway into Europe.
The staff were warm, knowledgeable and very helpful..not stuffy. Pedro took the time to explain the dishes and specials, and he was very informative. Again very friendly and attentive.
Originally we were going to order off the menu. We were interested in seafood and decided to have the specials: cataplana and the snapper. The cataplana was served from the traditional cataplana cookware at our table, and the salmon clams scallops shrimp and mussels were fresh and succulent. The flavors exceeded our expectations. The snapper dish came with cabbage, ratatouille, a large whipped potato croquette. Both dishes were excellent!!
We absolutely enjoyed this dinner. And we look forward to coming back!
We came on a friday evening & did not have difficulty being seated, but we understand that Saturday could be a bit busier

We really like Osteria Mattone, but find its twin somewhat less appealing. We chose this because it is close to GET where we had tickets for later in the evening. We had just recently dined at Osteria. We have eaten here before and did check out the menu before making a reservation. While we did do our "due diligence" online before making a reservation, we still were somewhat surprised. at the chef's "combinations." My wife settled for the hamburger. It was not done to her specifications, but not inedible. To note, my wife only told the waitress that it was not prepared to her instructions although acceptable (it was overdone, but edible), the manager did come over and comp the order. We did not expect anything other that the standard, "we can take it back , and...." Well I think that this does say a lot about the commitment of the restaurant to "getting things right." BUT, I had the short ribs. The ribs were delicious (and much more than I could eat). I took home a box (and did eat a wonderfully delicious sandwich the next day). Yet I would not order the dish again. The radicchio was sour and added nothing.. Perhaps, my taste, but I did not like the gravy/grits combination either.

The place has a lot of potential, nice outside seatings, no problem with parking (which in Downtown Roswell is a bear deal), the food is good but not exceptional. The first time we ate there we were completely ignored but the owner/manager at the entrance, nobody was willing to take care of us although we were the only ones waiting. Everything is deep fried, no gluten free options or not fried items. Not bad but unfortunately will not become my favorite.

Had not been here for quite some time so was excited to return for family get ttogether. Had several hiccups with our server as he just kept disappearing and seemed aloof. Asked two different servers for cheese, lemons, etc as he was nowhere to be found. Appetizers were good really liked salmon hush puppies. Once food arrived one steak ordered rare was close to medium well. By the time new steak arrived rest of table had basically finished eating. Odd thing was they never offered to replace his vegetable which by now was cold. For amount of money we spent we felt a bit let down. With so many excellent places to dine in Roswell feel they need to step up their game a bit.

We were a party of 9 from work who went in on Valentines Day for dinner. We were lucky to have reservations, the service was great - Very friendly, attentive and warm. It was helpful without being overly intrusive.

The wine was great. They have reasonably priced bottles. we had 3 bottles of wine and a co-worker of ours had a cocktail and a couple of them had non-alcoholic drinks.

The food was very good. We had wings. mussels and focaccia for appetizers. The entrees was a across the board from pasta to scallops to salmon to trout to vegetable plate. It was all delicious.

We finished off with White Russians for everybody along with passionfruit cheesecakes.

We spent nearly 3 hours having a great time - the waitress and staff accommodated us and made sure we had a gala time.

Hugo's Oyster Bar

Perfectly capturing the flavors and feel of the Coastal American South is Hugo's Oyster Bar in downtown Roswell, GA. Hugo's is the Atlanta area's newest Southern seafood concept from Rich Clark and Chef Jon Schwenk, the minds behind Vinings' beloved C&S Seafood & Oyster Bar. Great seafood with a southern twist.

We have been here three times. The consistency of the waitstaff’s service, taste of the food and quality of food is awesome. We love the oyster selection. Cooked and raw. The Bloody Mary self service bar on sundays is awesome. They bring you a glass with vodka and you go to a station and add your own concoction. I cheated and googled a BM recipe first. It was excellent. The meals are very good. It’s a Cajun menu but for Sunday brunch I couldn’t pass up the eggs Benedict. They have 3 variations and the classic Benedict. The (beignets) fried doughnuts with caramel sauce for dessert was an excellent finish to a very good mid range priced meal. Valet parking only because the lot is very small. It’s free other than tipping the guy. They have a full bar with seating. Lots of TV’s with sports on silently. Good music playing-80’s rock and R&B. I recommend reservations for dinner. It’s got an open air deck in front as well.

Osteria Mattone

Osteria Mattone is a neighborhood restaurant serving regional Italian cuisine with a focus on Roman fare, combining the casual spirit of an osteria with the more formal dining of a trattoria. The restaurant's menu and dining rooms allow guests to choose how they'd like to dine: pizza and a Peroni in the Osteria or a three-course dinner in the trattoria.

First visit to Osteria Mattone and we were pleasantly surprised. Nice atmosphere, quick seating, knowledgeable waitstaff, and valet parking. We found there were some winner and some just OK items on the menu. For example, the meatballs were OK - a bit bland. The sauce was authentic. The stuffed pasta was very good - something I would have again.
We'll definitely go back again. For a local restaurant it was very nice.

Food is decent though definitely does NOT taste like it's made in-house - tastes more like frozen and then cooked.... Small indoor seating area. Larger deck space. If you don't like dogs under your feet while you eat then Lucky's - at least the outdoor seating area - is NOT for you.
