The 'build your own breakfast' is very good. Eggs, bacon, baked beans, fantastic toasted home-made whole wheat bread, tomato, hash brown, mushrooms, etc. It's a little pricey, though - more than 40 yuan if you have the full mashings, but was definitely worth it. Pizza is good, but on and ultra thin base. Real cheese. The menu is limited - not as much choice as at N's Kitchen in Lijiang, but adequate. No spaghetti for our 7 year old! I liked the coffee. Service was relatively slow.

Breakfast was a surprise. I'm in the Home Away From Home hostel near the East Gate of the Old Town, and breakfast was great. Bacon, I mean real bacon! A fried egg, lightly cooked vegetables, extremely delicious sauteed mushrooms, and a toasted bagel, a really good toasted bagel, buttered, and served with jam. Top that off with a cappuccino, and I am good to go now for a fun day of sightseeing. If you come here, this is a great hostel with English speaking help, and the best breakfast you will have had in a while.

The Puppet Western Restaurant has been in operations since 1997. We serve pizzas, pasta, soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers. Our yak burgers and pizzas are our top-selling items. We also offer clean and simple accommodations in terms of dormitory beds
I had a yak burger since others had raved about it. I wasn't disappointed, the meat was tender and the sauce in the bun divine. It came with chips which tasted homemade. The menu is extensive though - there's something for everyone and they have a pretty good selection of local beers.Staff were friendly - especially the manager who talks about the area with passion and is very informative. Other staff members didn't seem to have much English but the menu is well written in both Chinese and English so it's easy to point if you need to.It's not the best meal I've ever eaten but the value is good - average for western standard food in Shangri la. I'd highly recommend this place.Dear Muppet333,Thank you for your review. We are glad our yak burger didn't disappoint you. Our staff is currently undergoing English training and we hope that in the near future they'll be confident enough to speak up and interact with foreign customer. All the very best to you.Dorothy L

We found this place through a TripAdvisor recommendation and, WOW, it was right on. We ended up eating of having tea here about 4-5 times in a six day stay!! The atmosphere of the old town location was absolutely amazing! We found the food at the nearby second location (especially breakfast) fantastic! My next stay will be at the old town location as the have three rooms to rent.

Weâd been in China for a few weeks and as good as the local food had been, I was so ready for a great burger. Flying Tigers didnât disappoint. The Yak burger I had here was delicious and accompanied with fries and a bottle of merlot provided the perfect remedy to my yearnings for western food. A must!
