Outstanding food at this family run hotel. There is a cafe, restaurant and bar and seven ensuite rooms. The cafe serves homemade cakes and scones with lattes, chill out and meet your friends. The popular evening restaurant has extensive menu catering for all. Most of the rooms are spacious with lovely fell views with comfortable beds. The service is friendly, efficient and unobtrusive. Situated in Alston within walking distance of all its facilities and within the North Pennines area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Very pleasant lunch al fresco

Reviewed By O6492HWangelaw

Late lunch with my son and his fiancé. Very helpful and friendly welcome and service. Good variety of meals, I had BLT in brioche with fries, tasty well cooked bacon, good portion size and excellent value. Lasagne meaty and filling, and pulled pork sandwiches also excellent. We sat in the lovely mature garden in the sun, relaxed atmosphere, comfortable new garden furniture and cushions. A very pleasant visit. Highly recommended.

2 day break

Booked a 2 day break at this hotel 6th to 8th June the hotel is in a beautiful part of Cumbria, close to Alston with many local places off interest with walks in and around the area. The staff are very helpful and courteous, but the menu contained quite a lot of gluten free meals but was not so when it came down to what was in the meal, The chefs need to look closer when preparing the menu before printing. The hotel its self was really comfortable with plenty of places to relax, but needs a little upgrading in places but saying that I would return again.

Comfortable budget accommodation

Reviewed By Jill S

I stayed one night while walking the Pennine Way. The hotel is no frills budget in a largely unmodernised pub, so not for you if you're looking for luxuries, but perfect for walkers and cyclists passing through. The room was warm and clean, the shower hot and the bed comfortable. TV in room, though I didn't use it. Good breakfast. The host (Tian?) was very friendly and helpful.

Enjoyed our fish and chips which were served pleasantly and in a reasonable time. The Inn was busy with locals and walkers and maybe some of the clientele slightly rough but it is an inn not a fancy restaurant.

Perfect!

Reviewed By JulieM3802

Garden House is a wonderful place to stay, right in the heart of Alston, but in a perfectly peaceful location. Janneke and Richard are lovely hosts, friendly and helpful and also very knowledgable about the local area. The room was a separate annexe from the main house. It was clean, and warm (it was February!) and the beds were very comfortable. There was a TV with Freesat, tea and coffee making facilities, and a private bathroom with powerful shower. A few steps from our door we also had access to a separate area which incorporated a kitchen with fridge, microwave, toaster, washing machine, etc., and a lovely conservatory where we could sit and eat, read, or watch TV. The breakfast was extensive, and Janneke and Richard were more than happy to provide us with whatever we wanted to eat each morning. There is also a lovely courtyard garden, ideal for balmy summer evenings! We will most definitely stay at the Garden House b&b again when in the area. Fabulous!
