Top 8 Cottages in Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy

April 27, 2023 Elouise Mccaul

Trentino-Alto Adige is made up of two provinces, the Italian-leaning Trento (or Trentino) in the south and the Germanic-leaning Alto Adige (or Südtirol, and also called Bolzano-Bozen, just to keep things interesting) in the north. Home to numerous picturesque towns, castles and historic sights, the main attraction here is the mountains. The stars of these are the Dolomites. Outdoor adventure opportunities abound year-round, with skiing, climbing and hiking among the most popular pursuits.

Rifugio Toni Demetz Hutte

Just perfect - welcoming and comfortable

Reviewed By ntalabany

A stay at Rifugio T. Demetz is so much more than just enjoying the cozy comforts of a well-run mountain rescue hut. The family of Enrico Demetz (the younger brother of Toni Demetz in whose honour the hut was built) offers wonderful warm welcoming service. They are all fluent in German and Italian and they speak good English but listening to their conversations in the guttural local Landin Dialect (which is only spoken by 20000 people) adds to the feeling of being in a truly special place steeped in traditions and the history of the surrounding mountains. We very well looked after. Before dinner Enrico stepped outside to check with binoculars on some of his guests to make sure they would make it down their climb safely. He was also very forthcoming giving us advise for our planned climb the next day. Our room was spotlessly clean and offered a fabulous view down to the Sella Pass and Marmolada beyond. We had a 4-person room for the 2 of us (due to Covid-19 restrictions). The bunk beds were super comfortable with thick duvets and good pillows (though my 2m climbing partner thought they were a bit short). Although there are electric sockets in the common hallway and the washrooms they are switched off during nighttime. You can charge your devices at the bar where they keep a multi socket for that purpose. We treated ourselves to the 2.5 min very hot shower for €3 (be ready to jump in when you put the token into the slot!). At just after 18:00 you can make your choice for dinner which is served from 19:00. Two different starters and three versions of polenta were offered. The vegetable soup was a wholesome affair and almost a big enough portion to count as a full meal. Goulash with polenta as main course was also very nice and we were then offered cake, yogurt or a choice of coffee and tea as desert (the latte macchiato here is outstanding!) After a amazingly quiet night a simple breakfast was served between 7-7:30 in the common room which had a fire blazing in the wood stove. We were perfectly rested and ready for our climb. With a multitude of amazing climbs within 5 min approach from the hut still to explore Rifugio Toni Demetz ranks in the top spot of choice for a climbing base!

Great food, great accommodation. Brilliant hosts.

This was our first experience of Chalet life as traditionally we have been self catered. The chalet was clean and comfortable with everything you need. Crystal hosts were excellent always willing to help and provide local advise, both on and off the slopes. The service received was brilliant. Food was plentiful and good quality, the chef did an amazing job. Short walk or bus ride to the nearest lift. The bus ticket at 6€ to travel anywhere around the Sella Ronda for the week was great value and easy to use. Great place to stay for the week. Thanks to the team for a great introduction to chalet life.

Agritur Ciastel Casez

Booked this place for the weekend and I figured out when arrived that instead of a bedroom it was a studio. Great mountain and vineyards view, nice patio, cozy place just few km away from the city center and - least but not last - friendly host! Definitely to keep in mind to return in the future!

Stayed for a week with kids at this family run farm. Apt was clean, practical and comfortable, someone from the family was always there to help and give advise. Location is perfect as it is halfway between Bruneck centre and Kronplatz skilifts. Would love to go back in the summer season too.
