Everywhere you turn there is a historical school, church, building, home to see. Beautiful and quaint. Have a glass of beer or wine at an historic inn, like we did in a 16th or 17th century one. Take time walking down the cobbled streets. The gardens and woods surrounding the moated castle are beautiful and while you cannot tour the castle as it is a private home, you will not be disappointed when seeing it from every angle. We took our bikes by train and cycled around the center of Burgsteinfurt(Steinfurt) and constantly stopped to look at places like the old Cathedral, many homes, the Hohe Schule, etc. We were constantly surprised, by the way, some of the historic buildings have more modern fronts, but when you turn the corner, you can see the original construction. After touring and lunching we headed out to the garden park and woods surrounding. There are many paths through the woods, which included an 18th century concert hall that was unfortunately shuttered. We crossed several paths and even bridged to one of the islands. We could see another island, unreachable, but it had a tall stone tower on it like something out of a fairytale. There is a lovely restaurant back in the gardens if you fancy a stop there. Truly a town that is underrated. I give it all 5 stars even if I did not get to visit the castle!
