Duncansby Head

Reviewed By StuartP73 - Westhoughton, United Kingdom

The turn for Duncansby Head is just a few hundred metres up the road from John O'Groats in the direction of Wick. After a couple of miles you arrive at a car park (free)near a lighthouse. A short 10-15 minute walk across fields will bring you to the most amazing view of Duncansby stacks. Well worth a visit just for the stacks however we also got to see seals and some great nesting birds on the cliffs.

Go Wild Highlands

Based in Lairg in East Sutherland, in the Scottish highlands, we are a small, family business running canoe trips down the Kyle of Sutherland and in other Scottish Highland locations. We choose off the beaten track locations for our adventures. These are scenic, rarely visited and generally well suited to those without previous paddling experience and provide a real sense of adventure. The trips are ideal for the beginner or anyone looking for a slow adventure rich in wildlife, scenery and history. We operate out of Invergordon and Lairg , delivering our excursions to the cruise ships that dock here and to the many holiday makers staying in East Sutherland and Easter Ross. Food plays an important part in all our trips. For our day long trips and cruise ship trips we supply a home made picnic with home baked sour dough bread, home grown salad plus locally produced smoked fish, meats and cheeses as well as home made cakes and biscuits.

This is a lovely attraction; fantastic natural wonder. Very well thought out for visitors making it easy to access and explore. Gentle 15minute walk to and from cave. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area or doing NC500.

Cape Wrath

Northwest tip of Scotland.

We took the Cape Wrath Ferry from Keoldale Pier Sept 16th. I enjoyed the 11 mile, 50 minute bus ride to Cape Wrath. Our driver had so many amazing stories and observations to share as did our Ferryman who safely navigated the short distance across the Kyle of Durness. The Ozone Cafe was a welcome stop for tea, few souvenirs and friendly chat with John, the owner. The history and beauty of the location was frankly awe inspiring. I would not hesitate to recommend this visit and was so glad that we had good weather and there was room for us on the ferry and bus. We checked out the pier from Durness the night before to confirm when the next ferry would be leaving and that it would not be closed due to MOD activities. We took rain gear just in case and were so happy to be travelling that day with like minded travellers from all over the world who all seemed to enjoy the whole experience as much as we did. Whaligoe Steps

Reviewed By Royboy75 - Redditch, United Kingdom

If I hadn't researched places to visit on our NC500 tour (and seen a programme on this the week before) we'd have completely missed the steps. Parking is a bit tricky as there are residential homes where the very small car park is and signage to the steps from the road is pretty poor. Having said that finding the steps was well worth it. The 365 steps are a bit tricky in places but the walk down rewarded us with two seals and a pup at the bottom and of course what a wonderful view. We spent over an hour at the bottom of the steps and the weather played ball. Definitely worth seeking out.
