You've probably heard that Guinness tastes better in Dublin (fresh from the factory), but what you may not know is that Dublin is a perfect destination for the whole family. No, we're not suggesting you let the kiddies drink a pint. Instead, take them to the Dublin Zoo, to feed the ducks in Stephen's Green or on a picnic in Phoenix Park. Scholars enjoy walking in the literary footsteps of such writers as Yeats and Joyce, while discerning shoppers have their pick of designer boutiques.

Christ Church Cathedral

Christ Church Cathedral is one of Dublin's oldest buildings, a leading visitor attraction and a place of pilgrimage for almost 1,000 years. Famous for its breathtaking beauty, magnificent architectural features and wonderful floor tiles, Christ Church is also popular as a venue and is host to many high profile concerts throughout the year. It is home to the tomb of Strongbow, leader of the Normans, who captured Dublin in 1170. The Medieval Crypt, the largest in Ireland, extends under the entire Cathedral and contains the mummified Cat and Rat, trapped in the organ in the 1860s. Impressive. Imposing. Beautiful. Worth it! Due to time, we chose this one over St. Pat’s. I don’t feel gipped in any way. Beautiful architecture, well laid out descriptions, awesome crypt, beautiful grounds in the heart of the city of Dublin. If you’re there, worth a stop, for sure!

Newman University Church

Reviewed By Bozeman-Dublin - Trim, Ireland

As a graduate of University College Dublin, this wonderfully ornate church holds a special place in my heart anyway, irrespective of how beguiling beautiful it is. I remember being at many a service here 20 or so years back when I was a student in Belfield and was delighted to get the chance to return a while back. It was founded by Cardinal Newman, the father of UCD and it is just resplendent with its coloured marble gold gilt and intricate iconography. What I most recall about the visit is the incredible silence and sense of tranquility about it, that and the immense weight of history and veneration. Just the most wonderful place to attend a mass or just to sit and think for a while.

You have to see this church. It is deceiving from the outside, but when you step inside and see the beautiful sanctuary, the many saints that are honored in the church, and the relics of St. Valentine, you are awe struck. The church also has a rare black Madonna over the altar, which is quite stunning. Lovely stained glass windows.
