Part of what makes this region so unique is the number of small family run brewpubs that dot the countryside. This particular area is blessed with great rural scenery which passes through some pretty small villages. During the 9-Hours Brewing Heartland Hiking Experience in Germany, you'll experience a part of Bavaria rarely seen by tourists as you hike the 10 miles through the heart of this brewing paradise. The brewpubs are from another time, simple but of great value. Regional specialties like Geräuchertes (smoked ham) go perfectly with the the very much local brews, often served via gravity dispense by the brewer himself. These are beers you're not going to find back home and they'll have you pining for them once back there. -Please not the Sunday departure follows a different route in a slightly different area and hence takes in different breweries and is about half the distance. This option is also possible on Saturday.
Inclusions: Transportation to and from hike via public transportation. , Guided 10-mile hike (shorter version available) through an area fondly called Franconian Tuscany.

Our family of five did a day-long beer hike with Rich in the area around Bamberg while on our Franconian/Bavarian holiday last August. Rich was an exceptional guide for the day, and this was quite possibly our favorite and most memorable day of the entire trip. Even our two 12-year-olds really enjoyed the day despite not being able to enjoy the beer (Spezi was available at all of our stops.) We were able to visit four wonderful local breweries (Brauerei Hönig, Brauerei Hölzlein, Brauerei Knoblach, and Brauerei Drei Kronen) before catching the last bus back from Memmelsdorf to Bamberg in the evening. In between, we covered about nine miles of some amazing Franconian countryside where we were the only people in sight. At one point I found myself simply awestruck that I was walking with my family through a forest in Bavaria on a barely-marked trail, and I was so comfortable with Rich's competence that I wasn't anxious at all and could just enjoy the scenery around me. I can't recommend Rich's beer hikes highly enough... you'll gain lifelong memories!

From the main market with the beautiful fountain past the Maxbrücke, the St Lorenz church, the Heilig-Geist-Spital and up to the Kaiserburg with its fortifications. Everything is easy for you to admire from the train. You will also learn fun and interesting facts, old-fashioned and current, glamorous and possibly also cruel, romantic and temperamental about Nuremberg and its residents. On this tour you will experience the highlights of several centuries in about 40 minutes and then you can explore the city on your own.

This little train was directly outside our hotel door. It was an excellent way to see some of the city with English narration.

On this tour you will experience the highlights of several centuries in about 40 minutes and can then explore the city on your own, join a guided tour on foot or take a trip on the Main e.g. to Veitshöchheim.

Well this was okay, but not very exciting. You see most of the highlights driving by, you get many facts and informations, but lively is something else. All presented technical, in a very boring way. Staff was nice and friendly- french and english headphone channel were at least a bit more interesting.
5. From Munich: Nuremberg Old Town Day Trip Small Group
The tour is generally supported by local guides or myself. Meet the guide for a 2- or 3-hour tour through the city’s Old Town. See beautiful timber-framed houses and cobblestone streets. See the picturesque past from the medieval era. Learn about the German Renaissance and the artist Albrecht Dürer's at his birth house. In the second part of the tour, you hear about the second war and the courthouse. On rainy days I offer an alternative Tour with more inside visits. During a train ride to Nuremberg, with a typical landscape from this region, I speak about medieval towns, social rules and living in the middle age. My program includes: - Complete support with information about the city and local shops - Two (till three) hour free time - etc. For those who like more information about the second war, I give all the needed information in order to visit the Documentation Center, Tribunal and other cites by yourself in your free time.

We did an excellent tour with our guide Paul. We are glad that we did it. He is an excellent knowledgeable guide, very caring and a lovely person. We visited St. Peter's Church, Platzl an der Orlandostrasse, Bayerische Staatsoper, U-Bahn to Odeonsplatz etc with him. He was very nice to us during our entire visit, patience as a guide should be, explaining history of each place along with some fun. If we ever visit Munich again, we shall hire Paul. Highly recommended.

The Fünf Seidla Steig is a great hike that passes five small breweries on its route along with some fantastic Franconian scenery. This is a chance to step back in time and experience life from another era along with sampling Franconian food delicacies and some of the best beer in all of Bavaria.

For my husband and I, this was our first time exploring the area of Franconia, and we were really looking forward to trying the different types of beers and visiting the villages. This tour did not disappoint! Even with the extreme heat, Rich (our guide) was very accommodating. We took our time at each brewery and ordered some amazing food! Rich was very knowledgeable about the different types of beers and suggested ones that were to our liking. If you are looking for a tour that has great beer and gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture, than this is the one for you! Were looking forward to more hiking trips in the future!
