The Moonraker

The Moonraker Hotel, a grade 2 listed 23 bedrooms Manor house situated on the outskirts of Bradford on Avon and Trowbridge and is a 15 minute drive from the Bath Spa. Mentioned in the Domesday book as being part of the Abbess of Glastonbury's estate, the Manor house was originally build in Queen Ann Style before being upgraded in the 17th century to Bath stone. Purchased by Tudor & Lucy Hopkins in July 2013 the hotel has undergone a full refurbishment including transforming the restaurant into a relaxed informal dining space. Our Head Chef and his team has created menus around the hotels kitchen garden and onsite smokery. Nine bee hives provide the hotel honey and rare breed pigs and chickens live on the grounds. The Moonraker oozes old world charm and is a relaxed cotsworld escape with some of the UK's top attractions on its doorstep.

You don't get the room you booked Rip Off

I booked on bookin.com but the hotel are selling the rooms on secret escapes so if they get more money for the room you booked you don't get the room if they get more money from the other companies as this also happened to other guests so it wasn't a 1 off!

Stayed 1 night in transit to Bristol. Good sized, clean room. Shared bathrooms not really an issue 2 toilets, 1 shower, only 3 rooms. No TV in room. WiFi good so can access on mobile devices if that desperate OR take the opportunity to take a break. Read a book etc. Thoroughly recommend the food in the pub below served by a very friendly and accommodating team. Courts Garden just down the road is a pleasant visit.

The Studio Bed & Breakfast

Homely and cozy

What a little gem! Jo and Robbie are fantastic hosts and catered for our every need. So welcoming and kind. The Studio is spotlessly clean. It is really well located for a short walk to the village pub and village shop and all the attractions of Wiltshire are easily accessible. Jo made sure our fridge was well stocked and even provided fresh flowers. All the little touches made us feel at home. We are so pleased to have found this place and will definitely book again. Steeple Ashton is a pretty village with friendly, welcoming people. Thank you for a wonderful long weekend.

Romsey Oak Farm and Cottages

Horrible owners!!

Reviewed By A5656DRrachelr

What can I say!!! Really shocked this morning after a weekend staying at the cottages with family to find my brother in law who booked the accommodation has received very petty complaints from the owners! Let’s start with the accommodation itself. As alluded to in other reviews (screen shots below) the house and cottages are tired looking in parts, especially the house, the rug and carpets are worn. The complex of accommodation is right next to a major A road, which is very busy. This was particularly noticeable during the evening when all windows had to be shut due to traffic noise ( far from the country retreat we were expecting). There is a front gate that can be closed but due to the gate being 5 feet from the main road I would not call this accommodation child or dog friendly. We had four families staying during the weekend, two of which with children ages from 7 to 2 years old. Each family had a car, this clearly agitated the owners as we were asked to move vehicles and reminded they had to go to work in the morning. We felt ‘watched’ all weekend. A random person knocked on the door asking for the owners, apparently a friend (a friend who didn’t know what cottage they lived in, strange!) blatantly snooping. Their complaint was we left a nappy in one of the cottage bins, we left the bath full and there was pen marks on the carpet and walls. I am very frustrated by this feedback especially as we cleaned the accommodation before we left, the main house down stairs was hoovered, all bins emptied and left in good order. If there was pen on the carpet then it must have been minute as I checked this before leaving. I could understand if the rug and carpet were new or in good order but the fact it’s not I find this very antagonistic. The bathroom upstairs is very nice with new fittings, however not overly practical as it took me and my husband 10 minutes to try and work out how to drain the bath, in the end we left the 5 inches of water in the bath rather than brake anything but this was obviously ‘filthy’ and offensive to the owners. The same as the one nappy left in the cottage bin, hopefully the £1000 we paid for one weekend covered the cost and distress of removing one nappy from a bin? We left a bin bag outside as we couldn’t find a black bin anywhere, the following morning it had been opened (animals), we then picked it up and re-bagged it. My family and I go away every Christmas and we have never received any negative feedback or been called filthy! I am happy to receive ‘just’ criticism but this, I am genuinely taken back. We felt watched and uncomfortable all weekend. If your planning a family get away then this should be avoided.
