Trelissick

Countryside estate with a neo classical house and woodland garden full of rare and exotic plants. Situated on a maritime peninsula with stunning views of the River Fal.

Reviewed By S5871YIdavidd - Blakeney, United Kingdom

This is a truly diverse garden situated on a steep valley descending to the bank of the Fal river. The house and garden are managed by the National Trust and offers extensive gardens and woodland walks for the whole family, including discovery of viewpoints and garden houses for children to visit. At the lowest point of the garden lies the River Fal and access out of the garden to see the King Harry vehicle ferry crossing the river by means of one of only 2 chain ferries still operating in the U.K. In addition, the house at the head of the valley can be viewed, and a very good cafe is available nearby together with an excellent secondhand bookshop and plant sales shop.

Victoria Gardens

Told about this park by the lady in the tourist office. Interesting access through a passage near the courts. This is a beautiful garden on the side of a hill. The centre point is what I believe is a Victorian bandstand, however, there are a number of interesting sculptures and a floral display/memorial of a spitfire. We sat and enjoyed our picnic here - there were toilets available in the part at the lower entrance.

Trewithen Gardens

Reviewed By daktari_on_safari - Southampton, United Kingdom

Mid March the camellias are in full bloom - fantastic range of varieties including the "original" Camellia "Donation" from which apparently all other cultivars are descended. Some magnolias already in bloom, and we were able to enter the walled garden which is only open on set days. Unlike many Cornish gardens, Trewithin Gardens are (relatively) flat and accessible to those of us who have respiratory limitations making climbing steep paths challenging.
