It is situated on the River Tavy from which its name derives. At the 2011 census the three electoral wards (North, South and South West) had a population of 13,028. It traces its recorded history back to at least 961 when Tavistock Abbey, whose ruins lie in the centre of the town, was founded. Its most famous son is Sir Francis Drake.

Spotted it today and remembered a recommendation. Big loop lay-by with ample parking space for vehicles of any size. It's half way up the hill out of Tavistock towards Plymouth. Looks nearly new but I was told the business has been here for years. On our day it was being run by two affable middle aged folk obviously well known to the growing gathering most of whom were obviously regulars. One welcomed me, explained the choices, reassured me that everyone would be served very quickly and said that the place never let anyone down and was a bit of a cult locally.I only needed a pit stop. I had a Cumberland sausage bap (also available as baguette) and a mug of tea. Can't remember the price but probably under £4 so good value. No one else was as modest and boring as me. There was no menu, folk just called out combinations of eggs sausages burgers bacon onions and lots more. Most people stood to eat at the counter but while I was there I saw bigger orders being wrapped in foil and bagged to be carried off. This is a friendly place and I shall certainly use it again. Recommended.

We are regular customers of The Cantonese Kitchen but after tonight we won't be using them until they buck up their ideas!! After placing our order my husband went to collect it and brought it home. We had the wrong sauce, no prawn crackers and we had asked for plain soft noodles which were not plain. My husband rang them and was told to go back and collect the right items. On his return the sauce was now correct and we had prawn crackers but the noodles had been remade exactly the same way and so we couldn't eat them as I can't have onions!! In the end they went in the bin alongside the first lot. If this was a one time blip we would be understanding but this is now the 3rd order in a row they have got wrong in recent weeks and it is not acceptable especially when they read the order back to you. We will be using one of the other local Chinese take aways for the time being.

Chips werenât great and the curry sauce was very thick and gloopy. Portion size between large and small chips was not a great deal. Will give them another go to see if there is improvement.

Short walk away from the Pannier Market that does simple food very well. Staff are friendly without being over tentative. The prices are very reasonable and the food is hot.It may look dated but this hides a great place to come for simple meals that the whole family will enjoy.

Visited as a family, staff were VERY nice & we had real pastyâs in.Wanted pasties to take away but all they had were hot, took 4 but when reheated were very dry, maybe our fault?Pasties in store were tasty but very dry on the edge, possibly due to being heated for a while (it was raining)Very tasty but could do better.Hi, Thank you for your review.
