Seeing just Budapest in Hungary is not the wisest thing to do.  Lake Balaton is the essence of Hungarian rural beauty. Hungary's version of Provance. And our favourite region in Hungary. You will enjoy stunning views, tiny villages with century-old whitewashed houses, amazing formations of nature. Balaton Uplands has been chosen by Mastercard users one of the Top 15 Hidden Treasures travel destinations of Europe. The 10 hour tour is filled with beauties of nature, interesting history and very good wine! The beauty of the nature, the great gastronomy, the fresh wines, the charme of the villages and the historical and architectural heritage of the region are all good reasons to make a visit here

2. Private Wine Country Day Trip to Somló and Northern Balaton (from Budapest)

Taste Hungary

You will try 5-7 wines at each winery, and cheeses and/or cured meats will accompany your final wine tasting. Somló and the Northern Balaton region are definitely worth taking some time to explore if you are fond of nature: this off-the-beaten-track tour is complete with a light hike and some additional sightseeing stops. Your private wine-specialised tour guide will help you discover this magical region.

My husband and I had a two person wine tasting (given to me as a birthday gift) and we had an AMAZING experience! Because of the COVID situation, private tasting are be offered at the group price and so we had the entire place to ourselves. We tasted 5 wines, if I remember correctly, and were each given our own charcuterie plate to complement the wines. We learned so much about the history of wine in Hungary and the different regions. Highly recommend - was a very special experience.

We’d booked this tour with Costco as we had had good luck with their service on previous cruises—and they did not disappoint. Our guide, Jolanta Car, was waiting at the bottom of the gangplank with a sign. There were three of us + Jolanta. We walked to her car and began the hour and 15 minute drive into Istria. Jolanta speaks perfect english and carried on a running conversation all the way to the first stop: a little farm restaurant out in the hills. After a brief wait for the members of another tour (which arrived by bus), we had a light lunch with wine and could see Motovun—an old tiny town built on top of a mountain. That was our second stop. Jolanta parked the car and we started up the hill. My wife had recent surgery and chose not to make the walk, and waited in the car. The three of us walked to the top and Jolanta purchased tickets to walk around the wall, as well as a cappucino. We spent about a half-hour there, then walked back to the car and continued to a small distillery, where the owner provided an overview of their processing and provided free samples. Very informative. We returned to the ship on time. It was a wonderfult time and we felt like we had gained a new friend. As we left here, my wife asked if she had a card—she does and owns her own tour company ([email protected]). When we got back to the ship, my wife wondered if Yolanta could set up a private tour in Dubrovnik. We had not as it was supposed to rain—but perhaps a private tour could work. 45 minutes later, we had a tour and a deal. The Dubrovnik tour was also excellent and we recommend Jolanta without reservation.

I love a good walking tour! It's the first thing I like to do when arriving to town since it gets you oriented to the major history and then gives you ideas of stuff to see.. We packed so much into the tour. The Square, government buildings, sculpture, orthodox church and mosque - wow so cool, and lots of other little things we eyed up to go back and enjoy.. Rate this one an "A"!
