Monumento Batalla Vuelta de Obligado

Reviewed By Rick F - Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina

Memorial and small museum commemorating the battle of Vuelta de Obligado where the Argentine government under General Rosas tried to prevent English/French ships from sailing up the Parana river by blocking the channel with boats and chains without stopping to pay customs duty at Buenos Aires. While the English/French contingent did force the passage, in the end they acknowledged the right of the Argentine government to impose taxes.
The site is the location where the Argentine batteries were sited and the right anchor of the chain/boat blockade. Very tranquil and well maintained with grassed and treed areas with a good view out over the Rio Parana. Good place for a picnic or to relax in peace and quiet.
About a 20 minute drive form San Pedro on a paved road. There are restaurants, cabins and camping at the village of Vuelta de Obligado.

Lo vimos desde afuera, ya que salimos a caminar sin dinero y cobran la entrada. Seguramente es un buen paseo si vas con chicos. Está ubicado cerca de una zona de camping.
