Top 6 Things to do Good for Big Groups in Chippenham, England

February 15, 2022 Marissa Gamble

Chippenham is a large historic market town in northwest Wiltshire, England. It lies 20 miles east of Bristol, 86 miles west of London and 4 miles west of The Cotswolds AONB. The town was established on a crossing of the River Avon and some form of settlement is believed to have existed there since before Roman times. It was a royal vill, and probably a royal hunting lodge, under Alfred the Great. The town continued to grow when Great Western Railway arrived in 1841; it is now a major commuter town.

Castle Coombe Race Track

Reviewed By BurryPort-heaven - Burry Port, United Kingdom

I'm 60 and have undergone the Side car Passenger course that's held here at least once a year. I've been advised by Nino at NG Road Racing and Crew that there will unfortunately be no Side Car Racing at Castle Combe in 2020 or future years he said !????????????,! Why ? I asked when we last spoke in October then again in November ? He said that, apparently there wasnt enough support for such a dangerous sport anymore as too many people were taking too many personal risks with their young ones lives !????????, ! I know exactly what Nino meant as on my course in August at Castle Combe there was a young man of 15 with his stupid Father, who regularly fell off of his Dad's side car at competitions and other Side Car Events ! They bragged ! For goodness sake, it's the most dangerous sport for a reason you stupid stupid Dad ! 140mph around a Race Circuit , hanging on to life with Grim determination is not for the faint hearted or unfit !! The 15 year old lad was not fit but he was very Fat like , his Dad ! Please Castle Combe Race Authorities , rethink your decision to ban Side Car Events for ever at your Race Circuit ? Because if you persist just because you are failing to police the Entrants attitude to life and health and safety , more effectively and thoroughly on Your Management's behalf , You're getting paid , we're not !! Increase the participating age limit and give us a taster during the Day course , that I and 7 others took with Nino at Castle Combe, in August 2019 ! Why should our whole sport suffer , from the bottom to the very top , because of some stupid underage, Numpties, who couldnt give a monkeys, whether , they live or do not ? Lol Please reinstate Our Side Cars, now, Castle Combe Directorate? Or else you wont see alot of us, return next season, to participate or come, as supporters, and spectators , of many of your, Events you put on at Castle Combe, at very, huge expense , hence , your very, high ticket prices , compared to Pembrey Race Circuit in South Carmarthenshire , near the Pembrey coastline , all of you who havent been yet !?must come and are most welcome to our Welsh land and Shores! It's dead cool and so relaxed compared to all , other UK Circuits and Cheap !! Usually only about £12 ! For All day and some really great views and all Motor Sports events from Bikes, Cars, Trucks, Lorries, Vans ! And maybe planes and trains one day ! Lol definitely A.I. one day I'm sure as Wales Motor Sports Authorities encourage our need to, still, feel DANGER and an ADRENALINE Rush ! For God's Sake.! The English Race Authorities, have gone, all soft on us, mate ! I've moved to Wales to be especially next to Pembrey Race Circuit, this Spring ! Come join me and other Side Car Passengers if you still care and still DARE , one another, to compete at the very highest level I am , a single 60 year old, female with no babies, and just one 27year old son who doesnt even know , where I'm living , these days, as so busy with his own career, so he, wont even, know if I fall off my Side Car as I probably wasn't listening to my Boss on His Bike , when he screamed , at me , to 'MOVE OVER' And I didn't , so fell off !! When careering around a very fast corner !! Yippee ! It's fun! To be brave but not Stupid ! I've learned , to roll, cleverly like Rossi and the like , so with proper Safety Clothing and the best that A man, can get ! as Luckky Gillette is my Race Circuit Name, and I'm an Independant Madam Racer, who's Wanting to Race to raise more Awareness of my very, Personal Cause.! That's, To raise, as much Monies, as possible , for all Ex Soldiers, and other, Military Service Personnel, who are unfortunate enough to have left their jobs, still suffering , with the nasty side effects , of PTMSD and other debilitating combat induced conditions like Depression , for example ! And help them to resettle quicker , back into Civvy Street , than they do now or Never !! Please Help ! Please Castle Combe , please reconsider and talk to Nino and NG Road Racing Team Members. All that may happen is that you force this amazing Adrenalin Busting Sport, UNDERGROUND, ????????????????, but fear not! If you act, Darn quick, and in time, for, the new Season , All will not be lost ! We promise , Nino and Me, Love from Denise Drewett , Aka , Luckky Gillette (and, All the Very Best, A Man Can Get !) He'll be lucky ! Lol I'm a 60 year old , Virgin Lady Side Car Passenger, who still needs a Solo Rider, to take her on his Side Car, to teach her, properly, and shout at her , constantly , to shut up , and stop arguing , and, JUST MOVE , THAT NICE ARSE, OVER HERE, NOW ! OR ELSE YOU'LL BE OFF , MY BIKE, IN A FLASH ! DO YOU HEAR ? X lol Thanks for listening Castle Combe Race Authorities ! Denise and Nino ! Hope he agrees ! Hee hee x

Bowood House & Gardens

Reviewed By YunziesTravels - London, United Kingdom

Stroll, sip, dance or marvel at its array of curiosities, the Bowood Estate has a flourish of touches to welcome guests from far and wide this summer. Set amid parkland designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, the rolling country estate has evolved into a first-class resort with a spa that has mastered the art of relaxation. Robert Adam, CR Cockerell and Sir Charles Barry have also left their marks on the manor and grounds, which began with the main house being built more than 250 years ago. Fruits of such labours form a harmonious medley on the 4,000-acre estate, which has been home to the Lansdowne family since 1754 and is as busy as ever, with the 43-bedroom county house hotel marking its 10th anniversary this year. A stroll in the landscaped grounds reveals gems such as Lord and Lady Lansdowne’s award-winning private walled garden, Bowood’s Arboretum with more than 700 species of trees, an adventure playground and a cascading rock waterfall. Idyllic it may be, but there’s also a running festival, an Ibiza party and an Instagram workshop in the calendar at the ancestral house and grounds in Calne, Wiltshire. The unimposing but stately Georgian House, set in 100 acres of Capability Brown parkland, is home to the Marquis and Marchioness of Lansdowne, but is open to the public, private groups and film crews alike. Elegant rooms and marble-floored walkways house treasured family heirlooms, including art and antiques, dating back nearly 300 years. The present Marquis, who took on management of the estate in 1972, has continued to diversify and enhance what has become a four-star leisure resort. The Marquis commissioned architect Dave Thomas to design an 18-hole golf course which has its own academy and the distinction of being the PGA’s official green for the South West. Relaxation without 7 irons can be found at the luxury spa, where my partner and I lapped up an infinity pool, gym and a newly-opened relaxation room where time stands still by a chic indoor fire and tinted windows looking out to the academy golf course. In the spa’s inner sanctum, health therapies include signature treatments from Eminence Organic Skin Care, Ytsara and Jennifer Young Defiant Beauty. Trips to a state of glowing calm include the Tranquil Journey, a 90-minute, full-body massage enhanced with a herbal poultice, and the Garden of Deep Calm, which combines Thai and western massage techniques with Malabar grass, sweet orange and vetiver with oils of rice bran, sweet almond, soy and wheat germ. My partner drifted away as she underwent the Pink Himalayan Salt Scrub, expertly delivered by spa manager Angela Covey in the scented room. For those that want to make a longer break of it, spa mini-breaks combine pampering heaven with a stay in the four-star hotel. Brunch, afternoon tea and a light supper in a twilight setting can also be indulged away from the whirl of everyday life. On the day we visited, a classic car and motorcycle show was underway on the vast lawn under the main house and terraced gardens. A suave and rather playful white Rolls-Royce 20/25 – 1932 Park Ward Saloon seemed to be calling for a jolly day out. Wrapping up our visit, we just about managed to prise ourselves from the expansive lawns and weathered stone in the gardens and headed back to the real world.
