Melville Castle, once home to the influential Dundas family, is set within a 54 acre estate of wooded parkland on the picturesque banks of the river North Esk. Located just 20 minute drive from Edinburgh’s city center this luxurious castle offers the tranquillity of a country setting on the doorstep of this thriving city. The 33 classically styled bedrooms offer all the luxury & comfort you deserve and our friendly team will take pleasure in catering to all your requirements during your stay. The Castle provides Bed and Breakfast accommodation and there are a number of award winning and highly recommended restaurants within 5 minutes drive. At one time the hunting seat of Mary Queen of Scots, the Castle was commissioned by the first Viscount Melville in 1791 for entertaining, which it continues to do to this day. We have ample free parking and a frequent 24 hour bus service to Edinburgh from the bus stop at the Castle Gates.
My wife and I stayed over the jubilee weekend and the entire experience was fantastic. The staff were all warm and helpful. The castle and grounds are spectacular, our room looked out over the fountain to the rear and the views were a bonus. We had dinner on the Friday night and my wife and I both had steaks which are lovely and cooked to perfection. Breakfast was very tasty ( I had the eggs benedict which was great) and the selection of buffet items was very good. We rounded off the trip with a jubilee themed afternoon tea which was the perfect way to finish. The cakes and venison burger were highlights. I was must admit I was slightly sceptical about the distance from the hotel to Edinburgh city centre as we planned to spend the Saturday there, however the number 3 bus was very easy to get from the bus stop at the end of the castle driveway. All in all my wife and I had a trip that will remain with us for many years to come and I can’t thank the staff of the Melville castle enough for everything did to make our stay so special.

Staying at the caravan park adjacent we decided to have evening dinner here.on arrival the staff were attentive showing us to our seats . we we're given lunch menus and told same menu in use at night apart from sandwiches. The choice is very limited about 7-8 on starters and main courses. Draft lager has 2 choices. and at £6.00 per pint overpriced Starter of asparagus was presented well and tasty. Main courses are small and overpriced ,as is the cheeseboard at £11.00 so declined the offer of dessert. Disappointed in this place so don't think we will return
