Top 6 History Museums in Lake Garda, Lake Garda

August 1, 2021 Tonie Szymanski

The largest of Italy’s fresh-water lakes, Lake Garda is located in northeast Italy. Tourists traveling here will find plenty of excursions and activities to keep them entertained year-round—everything from visiting hilly wine regions to exploring 14th-century castles. The towns and communities surrounding Lake Garda offer easy day trips from Venice, easily accessible by car or train. Major sights include the towns of Sirmione (which attracts most Lake Garda visitors thanks to its historic Rocca Scaligiera castle) and Riva del Garda (for the Varone waterfalls located nearby), as well as the region’s hills, which offer numerous hiking trails for adventurous walkers.

Omkafe

After seeing the great reviews I ear marked Omkafe for a visit whilst staying in Riva del Garda. The museum upstairs was quite interesting then we ventured downstairs where we were offered an expresso to try. As I drinker of coffee with milk I wasn't sure about the tasting so we opted to go with the Platino beans. Since arriving home the beans have not lasted long as when made to our liking it was simply delicious coffee...our only regret now is not buying a larger supply. They also have lots of gifts , coffee chocolates etc so if you love coffee make sure to drop in.

On its own terms a lovely location. The history of Gabrielle is closely entwined with that period of Italian history and adds real depth to the visit.

MAG Museo Alto Garda

Reviewed By 137re - Sarasota, United States

We thought we were going into a small exhibit of turn-of-the century photographs and ended up close to three hours in the museum, which showcases everything you would ever want to know about the area and is heavy on local artists from the stone age to today. Exhibits include formal oil paintings, prehistoric and Roman relics, and WWII history as it relates to the Garda region. You can also climb to the very top of the building from where you will have a lovely view of the city and the lake. A very nice museum with plenty of interesting things to see. It has a gift shop with great books. With the exception of some brochures and fliers (and videos running on loops), all the explanations pertaining to the contents are in Italian, so a basic ability to read the language is required if you want to get the most out of it - but not necessary to enjoy this beautiful museum. Don't miss it if you are in Riva for more than one day.
