Campbell's of Beauly

Campbell & Co, commonly known as "Campbell's of Beauly", was established in the village of Beauly in 1858 by the Campbell family. We specialise in countrywear, knitwear, and have our own bespoke tailoring staff, not only for the making of sporting suits, but also for more formal wear, ladies' wear, and typical Highland dress. Sporting tweeds form an important part of the large selection of fabric kept in stock. Some of the designs are woven specially, and can only be obtained from Campbell's of Beauly, but the ranges in stock include tweeds of various weights from a number British of mills, all woven in the UK. Our retail shops name "The Highland Tweed House" is a testament to our experience and expertise in this specialist niche area, and the company is often referred to as the "guardians of tweed". Some Sporting Estates have their own private tweeds for the use of their owners, employees, gillie's and game-keepers. This traditional Scottish custom has been revived by many of the smaller estates which have changed hands over the last 20-25 years, and Campbell's of Beauly are proud to supply many of these. Historically the company held the Royal Warrants for both HRH The Prince of Wales (later The Duke of Windsor) and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. In an era where it's becoming more difficult to find traditional British made bespoke tailoring, Campbell's are fortunate to have the skills of Mr. Tom Owen who succeeded his father who retired in 1985. Tom Owen trained as a cutter in Glasgow and worked with his father, who after selling his own business moved to Beauly in 1967. Since then Tom has honed his tailoring skills at the home of sporting tweeds. In addition of the large range of tweeds and countrywear range, Campbell's of Beauly specialise in luxury British made knitwear. Sourcing only the finest qualities from the best knitting mills in Hawick, Campbell's pride ourselves in offering a premium knitwear product of the highest detail and quality.

Visited in early January when the weather wasn't great but this has to be one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland. If you are looking for deer then this is the place to go. The views are absolutely stunning and the tranquillity is incredible. We encountered two cars in the whole time we were driving through. The wild goats are incredible too.

This is a unique and captivating place, a gallery of beauty and stillness. To go there is to be enriched by the atmosphere, the power of the artwork and the building itself, which is a converted chapel with a minstrels' gallery and stained glass windows. Outside the property there is an amazing bronze (?) creature climbing the wall: it is half the height of the wall, a lizard or a salamander perhaps. The door to the chapel is ancient wood with texture and detail of particular beauty. Inside there is a log stove and classical music softly acting as backdrop and focus, with comfy chairs to settle on and think. It's a place where you feel welcomed and can take as much time as you like to let the visual spell settle into your skin. The artwork itself is stunning: some absolutely wonderful paintings, sculpture and ceramics, displayed with enough space around each to let it breathe. I am not a wealthy person but I felt the pieces I liked best were both affordable and worth every penny of their advertised price. This is a marvellous place. You can go there and come out enriched without buying a single thing. But you know you will go back, and already there are things there you are thinking hard about, and that you know you want. You are hooked.

A beautiful ruin. Walk around the Abbey and adjacent graveyard reading the story board and learn of the visit of Mary Queen of Scots. In late evening can be really quite haunting. A true piece of highland history. Bus stops right outside from Inverness and entry is free.
