Visited the desert with our great guide Abdul. Surfed the dunes in a Land Cruiser before enjoying dates & coffee in a native Bedoin camp. All in all it was an inspiring day, very informative & a great way to see Oman.

Wadi Tiwi

Reviewed By Airman_blue1 - Vienna, Austria

I went there first in the morning after leaving from Sur. The road is easy to find (use maps.me) and gets exciting the more you drive into the valley. At some point I would strongly recommend a 4WD car, as it gets very steep and narrow and if the ground is wet you cannot continue with a standard car. You need some good nerves sometime, don't give up! You will end in a small village where children play around and offer you guidance to the pools. Basically you walk down to through hundreds of terraces where they plant all sort of stuff (also bananas) and will then find very big rocks with great blue watered pools in between. I was alone there and could enjoy swimming and making pictures. The water is not too cold, around 22° (in December).

Bibi Maryam Mausoleum

When we reached Qalhat mausoleum was actually closed for renovations. However, kind worker let us in to take a look - it's small but architecture is beautiful and will look amazing when restored. Legend says that the tomb of Bibi Maryam was built by the king of Hormuz Bahaudin Ayez, or that her tomb was is a site of a mosque that Lady Maryam built for herself as a final resting place.

Sur Maritime Museum

It won't take a lot of your time, but visiting the show factory is worth it. Seeing the splendor of old wooden boats skillfully revived is a beautifully experience. You can visit the factory at the beginning or end if a exploring day.
