I stumbled upon Green Garden while wandering around one morning. The serene atmosphere attracted me as the restaurant sits on a lovely pond with lilly pads, coconut palms, and birds of all kinds. It was very hot outside, but the cool breeze under the shade made the whole experience very comfortable. I was told the restaurant just opened a few weeks ago. My breakfast: omlette, banana pancakes with honey, watermelon juice and coffee. Budget friendly : I'd give it $ or $$ on price and 4 or 5 on food and atmosphere .

We got talking to the owner while he was actually setting up this little place in one of the little lanes between two other great local businesses: Crow's Nest for coffee and cake, and Janani for healthy salads. We were one of the first customers on opening day, and visited most days.The menu offers fresh juices, as well as a number of smoothies, lots of interesting combinations. The owner is such an amiable, lovely young man, hard working and doing his best to make this juice bar a success. He will make bespoke juices and smoothies. Say you want a bit of ginger in your pineapple juice, no problem. We went for pomegranate juice a few times, although we pre-ordered them as he needs to buy a lot of pomegranates to make a few glasses of juice. So delicious!Prices are average, and the place is squeaky clean. Small businesses like this deserve your support. Do go and try a smoothie, you will love it.

We visited after bathing on the beach. Rude staff did not allow us inside. We wanted lunch and could have changed into better clothes as well. Overall pathetic attitude. Ate at a restaurant near this. Much better person and place. They were behaving ad if they're the Taj and Leela of the place and no food is available anywhere else.

An amazing choice of dishes, well presented. A lovely cafe bar with sea views, I do believe itâs the only bar that has a proper coffee machine, so if you like an espresso this is the place to be. Despite several stays in Kovalam we had never been to the German Bakery. This time we were getting bored with the same menus every day, and we discovered this place offered some different dishes. We were in for a nice surprise!On our first visit my partner started with a South Indian Rasam soup which was exceptionally good. My coconut rice noodle soup was a little too sweet for my liking. We followed with some supposedly Thai dishes - som tam (papaya salad) and a vegetable and tofu stir fry with rice. Both were nice, but bore only a passing resemblance to Thai food. The lemon ginger soda was lovely, and my partner thought his ayurvedic lassi was good but overpriced.On our next visit we both had a bowl of the fantastic rasam, but then went European. My partner had a pizza Margarita. He liked it, I tried a bit and had to agree. I wasn't so lucky with my own choice, German potato salad with hard boiled eggs. I grew up in Germany and know a lot about potato salad (and can make a very good one myself), and this one was just about mediocre and very dry. We had one more meal, and of course couldn't resist the rasam, but then stuck with a couple of lighter dishes, a rice and vegetable curry which was nice and spicy, and aloo bonda which were mouthwatering. So the food ranged from excellent to average. I rated it 'very good' overall since the Thai food, for example, while not authentic was still nice, and there are dishes that are not available elsewhere. We had a look at the bakery items and cakes, but they always looked a little dried up and forlorn, so I cannot confirm the reputation for great cakes.The ambiance is laid back and tropical, lovely sea views, service friendly yet still professional, and prices a bit higher than elsewhere, but this is one of the most upmarket, refined places on the seafront. A nice change when you want to eat something different.

We opted for the Swiss cafe as it offered a variety of different cuisines. As a party of 5 with teenagers the adults ordered traditional indian and teens milkshakes and fries. We order paneer pakoras and chicken 65 and bruschetta with fresh tomatoes and basil. To drink we had refreshing lemon and soda . Overall we were happy with our food and the service.
