It is the capital of Khon Kaen Province and the Mueang Khon Kaen District. Khon Kaen lies 450 kilometres (280 mi) north-northeast of Bangkok.

"You have not eaten breakfast in Khon Kaen until you have eaten here" a local friend said. She was right. The breakfast was excellent. The fresh baked bread with two types of saugase and the eggs cooked on a "tin" plate was just amazing. The coffee was excellent. Felt like I was in Ho chi min city again. Amazing food, very good service and ridiculously low prices. What a combination!

One of the best restaurants in Khon Kaen. They don't have English menu and eating "Naem Nueang" requires some skills and training (because you have to manually wrap a piece of pork together with a piece of cucumber, a piece of raw banana, a piece of raw mango, a piece of garlic and a teaspoon of sweet, special sauce within a sheet of rice flour and put into your mouth!) BUT once you know how to do it, I promise this will be one of your best eating experience in Khon Kaen. If you don't have a Thai friend to show you how to do it, just ask the staff to show to you. Thai people are extremely friendly and helpful, just ask them to show you how to eat it, because it is too delicious to miss. This is one of my most favourite places to have lunch in Khon Kaen (they only open for lunch, not breakfast or dinner); the location is very central (less than a few min walk from "Kaen Inn Hotel" on Klang Mueang Road). The restaurant's name is pronounced "Um - Porn - Naem - Nueang"; most people in Khon Kaen know where it is because it has been established (and loved) for so long.Seriously, rather than going to an Italian or American restaurants in Khon Kaen, please visit this local place; you will not be disappointed. I cannot recommend this place enough."Naem Nueang" is the name of the dish I talked about above and they sell it in small, medium and large sizes. ALSO order "Kanom-Pang-Moo" (pork bread) - they toast a rugby-ball-shaped bread over charcoal, then slice it in the middle before putting pieces of roasted pork inside. They then chop the filled bread into small pieces before topping it with delicious, sweet and salty sauce! The BEST dish ever! They also service crispy spring rolls and also soft/fresh spring rolls (with herbs filling). They comes with special dips and are very delicious!Just go!!!

that's it .... if you have nothing better to do.... you can eat very average food here ,,, seriously - if you have the time and energy - go somewhere else..... saying that Khon Kaen doesn't have a lot to offer.......... for pizza --- Pomodoro or Mikeys.... for Indian - Blues,, other stuff Didines,, then Pullman or place near g9 condo... (that's about the best place) otherwise get on a plane somewhere not as sht as kk.
