Mueller State Park isn't one of the most celebrated or most visited parks in Colorado. In fact, it can get downright lonesome. Located outside of Divide, Colorado, and southwest of Colorado Springs, it was established in 1986 and covers 5,112 acres. But the park is pristine and scenic and is a popular destination for hikers and bikers and hunters and campers and horseback riders who like to avoid crowds. Mueller State Park offers many outdoor activities. There are 55 miles of trails. The park is open in the winter for snowshoeing, sledding and snowtubing. And it is diverse habitat for a variety of wildlife, including elk, black bear, eagles, hawks and bighorn sheep. One of the most scenic attractions is Dome Rock. If you enjoy solitude, this is the place.

This was one of the most magical, incredible experiences we’ve had (and that’s a very high compliment, as we’ve visited seventeen countries, walked with snow monkeys in Japan, and swam with sea lions in Patagonia). CWWC is a sanctuary for the gorgeous animals who live there. The animals’ body language makes it immediately clear that the wolves, foxes, and coyote-dog are all happy, healthy, and loved. We did a VIP experience with Navi and Tala, who are just the most beautiful, loviest puppers - they showered us with hugs and kisses that we’ll never forget and looked right into our eyes like old friends. Celia took FANTASTIC photos of our time with the wolves, Erika helped us feed them treats, and Fish gave a hilarious and truly enriching feeding tour. Darlene and the whole team are doing deeply commendable work. It was a perfect adventure that we’ll always cherish.

What a great hike. Sure, it’s all “up” to the falls, but look at the bright side, it’s all “down” after you spend time at the falls. I two my two teen grandsons who came from close to sea level on this hike and they held up for the whole hike. We stopped quite a few times on our ascent since they weren’t used to the altitude, but the frequently stopping was worth it for the falls were beautiful. We had good snowfall this past winter and the water was running in abundance at the falls. It’s just a beautiful hike to take on a hot day.
