A historical village with a magnificently preserved fort, well worth a visit. The village has some interesting things to visit, like the royal Mews.

Castelo de Castelo Mendo

Reviewed By Vitor A - Lisbon, Portugal

If you are traveling in or out Portugal by the Vilar Formoso frontier do a detour to visit this very interesting middle-age town; you’ll not regret it! As is quite a desert town you shouldn’t plan to visit it during meal time. Enjoy!

Museo Historico-Militar de Almeida

What a stunning place, all brought to life by wonderful videos in every room, with commentaries in Portuguese, Castilian, French and English. We discovered a lot we didn't know about the Peninsular War and about the Portuguese who fought in the First World War. It was the perfect way to finish a day in this fascinating town.

Picadeiro Del Rey

Castle of Castelo Bom

Reviewed By Amazon122s - Santa Comba Dao, Portugal

The Borderland Castle tour – “Castelo Bom”.
This location is on about 8 km from “Castelo Mendo”.
It is a similar small village with all granite stone houses and a small church, who was not open when we visited the place, it is not very special but as it was close to “Castelo Mendo” we took some the time to make a small visit and so complete our tour.
