Travelling from Porto to the South across Serra da Estrela was a good decision. Plenty of nice views. Many attractions on the way (water reservoirs, RAMSAR protected area, charming glacier valley, ski area etc.). More on the pictures.

It was our first trail in Manteigas. The brochure said it was a medium level difficulty. The first bits were way trickier than what I'd expected! But it was fine, and our 7-year old daughter was delighted with all the climbing involved. The trail was extremely well marked, and the views of the cascades and the waterfall, as well as the surrounding woods were simply delicious.

A beautiful place to have a look all around the mountain and a long walk with the fresh air of the mountain. Besides all this, you still can find traditional gastronomy in small shops.
