Dartmoor Whisky Distillery

Please note: due to Covid-19, we are currently closed to visitors, apart from Saturday 1pm-2pm for tours. Pre-booking is eesential, you can book tickets on our website. WE ARE CRAFTING THE SOUTH WEST’S VERY FIRST SINGLE MALT WHISKY ON THE EDGE OF DARTMOOR NATIONAL PARK Our beautiful ex-Cognac still was hand beaten in 1966 and has produced quality spirit for the likes of Hennessy, Martel and Remy Martin for most of its life. Saved from sitting dormant since its decommission in 1994, our still has been fully refurbished to restore it back to its former glory and is now producing smooth, sweet new make spirit made from Dartmoor barley. Inspired by the rugged land of Dartmoor on which we live and guided by our Master Distiller, Frank McHardy, our mission is to produce single malt whisky of unrivalled quality that encapsulates the true spirit of Dartmoor National Park.

Well worth a visit Simon is a great host very informative interesting talk all about the “history”of Dartmoor Whisky Distillery and the making of whisky. Please if your interested in local interest want to support them or just find out about whisky making go and enjoy an hour or so here. Do a little tasting and maybe purchase a bottle. Could do this trip on your own or as a couple group friends (not really for young children )

If you have never done an escape room you need to do it!! I can’t recommend this little business enough. We played ‘Back to School’ and the puzzles were really fun- pitched at a level that made you think! My 12 & 10 year old loved taking part and could help solve some of the padlock codes. Professional & extremely covid secure. Based in Bovey Tracey. Let’s support local in these tough times. A fun team building exercise. Can’t wait to do another one. Thanks Leanne

Devon Guild of Craftsmen

A free admission contemporary crafts gallery with large shop in a beautiful riverside setting on the fringe of Dartmoor.

Visited this innovative art/crafts centre tucked inside a picturesque former mill. First you walk into the courtyard where a very welcoming man was operating the mobile coffee shop. Then you walk through into the shop which displays many beautifully designed pieces and objects produced by local artists and craftspeople. Beyond this are the galleries which are laid out traditionally with exhibits placed on plinths and against whitewashed walls, with artists’ summaries of their work and inspiration. The building is an exciting place to exhibit work and provides a great showcase for local talent. If you buy something from the shop the staff are very helpful and share your excitement with your purchase. They can also provide further information on the artists who exhibit at the centre, if you ask at the desk.

The Jolly Roger

This is a showroom of life size 3D models. All the models are for sale and we welcome careful visitors to take a look around. Our showrooms are free, and our models range from tigers, racing cars to famous faces. Do come and take a look around.

We like to do this walk e dry once in awhile: park at Parke (National Trust), cross the woods and enjoy the riverside, cross the park at the Scouts’ hut and head for the Jolly Rogers for a rocky road from the converted Airstream or the ice cream com the hut. The Jolly Rogers itself houses a collection of various life sized models inside and outside in the court, including a collection of shiny bikes by the exit. Shame we didn’t spot the collection box as would have contributed to support this amazing place !
