Praia da Terra Estreita

Between Praia da Ilha de Tavira and Praia do Barril in Tavira island narrows, resulting in a strip of sand about 50 yards wide, called Praia da Terra Estreita. It is from the picturesque fishing village of Santa Luzia where boats leave to cross to the island.

If you have the patience to queue in line for the ferry and for the trip across the lagoon, you'll be rewarded. Beautiful beach, with some shallow water for the smaller kids and crystalline water. There's a bar and straw parasols for hire plus lots of free beach.

Jardim do Coreto

One of my most favourite places in Tavira. This little garden and square, with its black & white paving, leading to the old fish market, has enough simple pleasures to draw you back time after time. With its bandstand pavilion surrounded by its little moat/pond full of fish and turtles enjoying lounging in the sun. Treat yourself to an ice cream from the vender in the square or the market, and sit along the river and enjoy watching the people go by. Street sellers with clothes and handbags, or (if you get the right day) the street market. Love it!
