It is an hour by plane from Lima, in the high jungle plateau to the east of what is known as the selva baja (low jungle). Although Moyobamba is the capital of the region, Tarapoto is the region's largest city and is linked to the Upper Amazon and the historic city of Yurimaguas by a relatively well-maintained transandean highway, paved in 2008-9.

I like to try vegetarian places when I can, but usually the taste is not that good despite using great ingredients. This cafe is definitely the exception: the seasoning was on point, my Zygo (vegetarian) burger was mouthfuls of taste, the smoothies were beyond scrumptious. We'll be coming back again.

I've been visiting restaurants in Taris (short way of calling tarapoto locals use) for almost 30 years now, about 20 years ago this restaurant named after a typical food cooked wrapping fish in bijao leaves (patarashca) opened as one more of many other places in town (almost each block you will find ladies selling food on the sidewalk in front of their homes). When going to this particular restaurant you may find twists on traditional local food that you will not find in other wonderful places you should visit for a fraction of the finer restaurant price (and sometimes much better preparation than the fancier places). As places grow in visitors numbers you may experience delays on attention or getting the bill or the change and being offered smaller portions for bigger prices. But there are always things that you will not find in other places (house specialties). In Patarashca a classic is the 'chonta salad' which you may find in 'Doña Zully' restaurant as well, but some other dishes are made only in this place like the pork chops in cocoa pulp (mucilage) Dear costumer,Thank you for your comment.Your comments will help us to improve a better service. The food is very well presented and tastes very good, the portions are the perfect size to counteract the rich menu offering. I loved the lemonade, because they made it traditional, which has meant or lemon grass! The sauces comes with garlic that basically makes it delicious and unique to donair/shawarma. We had hummus, falafel and chicken shawarma, that were delicious!
