Friends and I booked a table at Billy Andy’s this weekend but we heard that the bar restaurant also had live traditional music on Saturday afternoons so we came early to experience a live session. The music was simply amazing. Musicians drifted in with their instruments all afternoon with their fiddles, penny whistles, banjos, harps, bodhráns and even uilleann pipes. We sat at the bar all afternoon soaking-up the great tunes, songs and atmosphere until our table in the restaurant was ready. Even at dinner the distant music from the bar added to the evening. The food was stunning, just faultless. Again the service was perfect, the restaurant manager and our waitress Sharon looked after our every need. I God-willing, I will definitely return to Billy Andy’s. We all had such a great day. Attention all other bar owners - A much-needed research field-trip to Billy Andy’s is needed. Go and see how a county pub restaurant should be run.

We made a big mistake ordering starters AND a main course today as both were very generous serves! Service was friendly and fast and our lunch (piri piri chicken wings and nachos for starters, fish and chips and chicken escallop with champ and pepper sauce) we really good. Price including a pint was very reasonable too.

Ruby’s has come on leaps and bounds recently. Just outside the town centre of Larne, there is plenty of parking. They are adding more and more deals during the week and they are great value. They now have a ‘Beat the Clock’ menu and a BOGOF offer from 12pm to 5pm. Food is great and good quality. Only improvement I would suggest is the entrance to the bar passes the toilets and there is a slight odour. But in the bar and restaurant area everything is CLEAN and tidy and that’s what matters most. Well done Ruby’s you are doing well!

Larne seems like a nice town, but it lacks good bars. I walked all over, but could not find one decent joint. Frustrated, and heading back to the train station, I asked a local (he was walking a dog) to recommend one, and that's how I ended up here. It reminds me of working class bars in Dublin, and not at all what you'd expect from a station bar. The staff and customers were all solid, down to earth people, and they all seemed to know one another, and judging by the Celtic jersey on display, probably big football fans. There's a pool table and juke box, and a small stage, so I'd imagine the place is hopping at weekends. I felt very welcome, and would have no hesitation returning, actually will look forward to it.
