When last in England, and driving to London through Crowborough, we passed on our left a modest building modestly proclaiming itself to be a Country Pub with Dining. Turning round and going in, we soon realized our mistake in passing it . The modesty of its self proclaimed status belies the remarkable achievement of its owners and staff - this is a great welcoming genuine unpretentious pub with all the character of a country inn, with great dining in a large separate area with lovely decor. The food is as good as you will find anywhere , with a wide ranging menu and ample portions ( unlike so many other places ). Squid, terrine, risotto , dressed crab , salted caramel torte and ice cream we had were fantastic. The service is excellent - charming , welcoming, attentive without being intrusive and professional to a level far beyond the youth of the staff. People and their children are happy here . Outside there is a large area with tables and a large car park. A great deal of thought has obviously gone into creating such a great welcoming place.

Thank you once again Peter (Maitre'D) and Kat (Dedicated member of staff) for a superb Birthday Evening for my wife. From the moment we arrived the service and attention shown was excellent and while the restaurant was very busy we were given all the time we required to decide on the meal we would like..The menu was very broad and extremely interesting and I feel confident that it could satisfy requirements and pallets of all diners. The different courses were excellently presented and ample time was also given between courses. Many thanks and please pass our congratulations to the chef for the presentation and warmth of his dishes.Dear David L SThank you so much for your wonderful review and all the kind comments. The whole team is absolutely thrilled with your feedback and we are all extremely happy that we have provided you with such positive experience. We have recently updated our menu with few new dishes so hopefully, we will see you again soon so you can try the new additions to our broad range of food offerings. We are all looking forward to seeing you very shortly.Kindest RegardsPeter and The Team @ The Crow and Gate Inn

We called in for lunch unannounced and were made very welcome. We had the “ tapas to share “ washed down with Harvey’s bitter and Pinot respectively . Tapas were an excellent mix with plenty for two of each of the 5 dishes included . Beer was well kept and served & wine chilled just right . Overall a very pleasant way to pass a lunchtime - excellent value too .

Booked a table for Sunday lunch. Very busy, looked after and shown to table. Ordered drinks and looked at menu. Good selection, chose roast pork. The meat and crackling were very good, with roast potatoes but was rather lacking in vegetables, a few tiny pieces of carrot and a very small amount of cauliflower cheese. As place was busy didn't want to make a fuss and the meal itself was very tasty. The pudding was great as well, Eton mess. Well looked after by host but felt a little let down by lack of vegetables.Overall would recommend Sunday lunch.
