Perfect accommodation in the most charming of cities

Reviewed By Simon_D_UK76

My wife and I were fortunate enough to stay at Grosvenor Villa in Bath for two nights. One is instantly struck by the incredible architecture of the building, and the interior is strikingly beautiful. The bedroom could not have been more comfortable, with the luxury of a super king sized bed. The vista from the bedroom window affords the most stunning view of the city, which is a mere gentle stroll from the villa. The breakfast was perfect for our needs, and one couldn't wish to dine in more refined surroundings - it really makes for the most idealic start to the day. Richard was a wonderfully charismatic host, and we couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity to share his most resplendent of homes, if only for a short while. We very much look forward to returning.

8 Owls B&B

The central location of this ancient town makes an ideal base for day trips to much of what Somerset has to offer; historic monuments, beautiful countryside, the Georgian town of Bath and many more attractions. We warmly invite you to come and stay.

The cottage

Reviewed By 969amelias

Stayed with my two children on a Saturday night. We used the check in details and our initial reaction to the accommodation was that it was wonderful. Very spacious, clean etc. The bathroom was a little disappointing with paint and a shower panel coming away from the wall. The kitchenette was well stocked with all you would need to cook meals for a longer stay (obviously minus the food). The trundle bed was a nice touch in the main 'loving' space. I've never stayed in Glastonbury before and it was somewhat of a last minute booking the Thursday before when I found a discount through booking.com. So I'll admit I didn't do thorough research of the area that the b&b is located in. (So taking some responsibility here). When we arrived I realised that it was literally right next to the Assembly Rooms (I had no idea what this building was used for), it was heaving outside the b&b entrance. I didn't think much of it as it looked like families - we went inside and I realised that the main bedroom window was situated right on the side of the alley next to the assembly rooms, again, I thought it would just be open during the day and that the massive amount of noise coming in to the room wouldn't be an issue. Until I saw a sign about an event that was taking place later that evening, so I did a quick Google and soon learned that a band or two were due to be playing that evening in the assembly rooms. From 8pm swaths of people were arriving. Loud, somewhat lairy and drunk. The window in the main bedroom has no purpose other than to block rain and wind. Every single thing taking place outside can be heard as though you are in the alley. The noise of drunken arguing, shouting, dogs barking etc went on til 1am at least. I may be wrong here, but I feel as though the owners should be making people aware either through their website (or third party websites) and when potential guests call to book a room that the b&b is situated next to a music venue. I also feel that some soundproofing and better quality windows wouldn't go a miss. My children and I barely slept. We then had to drag ourselves over to a pub to have breakfast (my fault for not checking that this would be the case, I just saw that breakfast was included and thought 'great'). I absolutely won't be returning, which is a shame as the accommodation itself is lovely, I just feel that there should be more transparency and communication regarding the neighboring buildings and what they are used for, particularly for family bookings.

The Redan Inn

Staff are the key to this success

Reviewed By CPH19592013

We stayed at this inn with rooms for two nights and were joined by our family and friends. The rooms are comfortable, well equipped and spacious, the food is well above average and we loved the ‘old signs’ themed decor. But what brings this inn up to a 5 star rating is the staff. We were welcomed by Ella and throughout our stay she was friendly, helpful and in fact nothing was too much trouble. India and Esther served us breakfast with efficiency and humour and Kirsty was calm, efficient and speedy serving us for dinner. Behind the scenes Toby ( and probably other chefs) were cooking some fantastic food and generally we felt well looked after and pampered. One small thing, some of our party would have loved some fruit or yoghurt for breakfast. Certainly we would return again if only for a pint of Hedge Monkey!

Withy Cottages

Dating from the early 1800's these blue lias stone cottages would have originally been thatched. The small lane running in front was the main thoroughfare linking Pibsbury to Langport via Huish Episcopi. After the "new" road was laid the cottages were extended forwards providing two extra very small dwellings then later being combined with the cottages behind, forming the two that are now Withy Cottages. The stream running in front rises in High Ham and joins the River Yeo in a field or so behind the gardens before that joins the River Parrett, it is believed Withies were washed in the stream and dried in the back gardens before being made in to withy products. Huish Episcopi and Langport are situated at the heart of the beautiful Somerset Levels mid way between the county town of Taunton and Yeovil. The ancient beauty and diverse wildlife of the area makes it one of the landscapes that has inspired many artists and photographers as well as drawing visitors from all over the world. The ancient Muchelney Abbey is less than 2 miles from Huish Episcopi and Glastonbury Tor is only 12 miles away.

A lovely week in 529!

Reviewed By Charlotte C

This was our 1st Lodge holiday and won't be our last as we've already booked to return next year! We stayed in 529 which is a 3 bed platinum with hot tub. It was the cleanest van I've ever stayed in and we were all very impressed. The hot tub was checked twice daily and is emptied and deep cleaned when you leave (we watched one of the maintenance staff 'hoovering' it and wiping it down after our neighbours had left). The site itself is lovely and so peaceful. I was slightly concerned when we arrived as our lodge was right near the entrance but we weren't bothered by noise at all. The sister park is the most lively of the 2 and was quite busy. I wouldn't want to stay there only because the vans seemed quite tightly packed together but it otherwise looked OK. We saw maintenance there every day keeping the communal areas neat and tidy. We used the pool 3 times and it was spotless. We took our youngest swimming for the 1st time and he absolutely loved it! You still need to book a slot to gain entrance but that meant it was never overcrowded so we could enjoy ourselves without worrying about bumping into other swimmers constantly which was a bonus! We only visited Dunes once, the drinks were reasonable and there were lots of people enjoying the kids entertainment. However the arcade seems to be a waste of space as hardly any of the games were working. We saved our money and went to the massive amusements on the pier in Weston instead which were brilliant! The beach is only a short walk from the lodge park and we went most days. Walking through the Dunes was lovely and the beach itself is huge! We went most days and enjoyed dighing with buckets and spades, playing football and attempting to fly kites. Its such a shame that you can't really go in the sea but we didn't let it ruin our beach fun! There were afew little things we did notice about the lodge however....1- the dining chairs were quite rickety and it felt like the legs were about to fall off at times when you sat down on them. 2- the shower in the ensuite was more like a trickle but we had another shower so it wasn't a big problem. 3- as we used the tub every day the water level did fall quite drastically by the end of the week. It could've done with topping up ideally. I am sure maintenance would've done so had we asked bt we didn't so that's on us really. 4- we have a little one and could've done with a gate on the veranda to stop our little escape artist from wandering off and help us relax little more. Most lodges did have a gate but we were just unlucky that ours did not. These were all very minor things however and didn't prevent us from enjoying our wonderful week at Sandy Meadows. Can't wait till May 2023 already!

Wildlife wonder

Reviewed By FandME

We had a wonderful week recently at Little Norton Mill, staying in Tamarisk. The cottage was so well equipped and spotlessly clean and comfortable. Set in beautiful grounds with plenty of seating areas to spot the local wildlife. Was so pleased to see the badger outside our patio doors on two evenings. Ideally situated to explore the local National Trust properties and little villages. Excellent local pubs all serving good food. Would not hesitate to recommend to family and friends. Thank you Matt and Abby for a very enjoyable stay and look forward to returning again soon.

Exceptional accommodation. Wonderful hosting.

Our theatre company were fortunate in being booked into Flora’s Barn and the Old Bakery whilst touring in the area. Our hosts attention to detail was exceptional. We loved everything about the cottages; the decor and antique furniture and, overall the beautiful sympathetic restoration of both properties. Everything is squeaky clean and there are far too many lovely touches to mention. The garden and grounds were lovely and the views - wonderful with lots of wild flowers, birds and animals. The Quantock Hills are eye wateringly beautiful. We had a great time exploring local walks, talking to the hosts ponies and eating and drinking with friendly locals in the village pub. Even warmer than the wood burning stoves, was the welcome from Jacqui and Bruce. They went out of their way to enable us to park a large van in the pretty courtyard and were helpful in every possible way. This is a superb base for exploring the area and it is difficult to imagine a better location for exploring the many attractions and countryside in the area.
