We contacted Natasja for our upcoming trip to Curacao after having seen all the positive comments on TripAdvisor. Since we only had the day to visit the island as part of our cruise visit, Natasja convinced us to do a 6 hour west side island tour in order to get the most out of our visit. We were hesitant to do 6 hours since the family also wanted to do some shopping before heading back to the ship. It turned out to be a great suggestion. Natasja was right on time and at 9:a.m. was cheerfully waiting for us outside the port ready to show us the best of Curacao. She is an excellent and knowledgeable tour guide and after a scenic and informative drive past the Queen Emma pontoon bridge and through the downtown Punda and Otrabanda quarters, we made our way to the Hato Caves and Boca Tabla on the west side of the island. Having visited a variety of caves during our travels, we still found theses caves interesting as they are located above ground compared to the underground caves we were accustomed to visiting. The nearby fresh breeze and expansive views at Boca Tabla were enjoyable and the site was well worth a brief visit. Given that we are the “beachy” types we had mentioned to Natasja that were willing to forgo some of the other suggested tour “stops” in order to visit some of the local beaches. “Of course you will…” Natasja had mentioned during our planning discussion that “we will also visit my mom and you can all swim with the turtles”. We really weren’t sure what that was all about but figured that if it involved swimming it was a good thing - so we decided to go along with her suggestion. Well, I have to tell you that visiting her mom’s home and seeing the view from her property from the rocks above Playa Piscado - where she also has ocean view apartments for rent - was well worth the trip. Steps lead from her home directly down to the beach below – what a magnificent view from her large patio and to wake up to that every morning is simply postcard perfect! With our snorkeling gear in tow, we made our way down the steps to the beach. We immediately noticed the many visitors snorkeling at this beach as well as several scuba divers heading into the water. Although told but forgotten were the large turtles swimming in the area. What a delightful experience it was to swim right along these beautiful large and graceful reptiles. Our teens had expected the many beautiful fish but to see the large turtles right here was totally unexpected! Upon our departure and as we offered our gratitude and many thanks her mom even provided us with tasty homemade treats to go. On our scenic drive back we took a dip at beautiful Kenepa Beach, made a quick detour to Playa Lagun, and snapped some pics of the flamingos at Williwood. It was a perfect end to our tour. As promised, just around 3 p.m. she dropped us off near the pontoon bridge for some quick shopping. Just in time to actually see the bridge open and to browse the nearby shops before heading back to the ship. We could not have asked for a better guide to see Curacao for the day. We will now have to plan to come back and spend more time taking in all of Curacao! Thank you, Natasja for an excellent day!

When we got to curacao, no taxis were at the airport. We waited in a long line when finally Christina drove up in her van. She loaded up 3 couples going to different places on the island and gave each a great group price. She was a good driver and a cheerful face after a long day of travel. Thanks Christina, for saving the day and getting us safely to our hotel in time for happy hour!
