The population in 2011 was 175,478, and covered an area of approximately 62.42 square kilometres (24.10 sq mi). The urban centre, the city proper, had a population of 45,703 in 2001.

oved everything about this surfschool! Amazing teachers Nino and Anastasia could put us, 3 quite unmobile architects on surfing board and create amazing experience from it! Who would know! Board rentals and class bookings are very flexible, prices are more then affordable, but best about this place are definitely people! They become not just the stuff who offers equipment, but amazing friends! Nuno, you’ve definetly stolen a piece of my heart ???? Soon again ????????♀️

You will start you northern Portugal adventure discovering the medieval centre of Guimarães. You will see why the historical center city -the birthplace of the nation- was warranted as UNESCO World Heritage. Besides the ancient center city you will also visit the castle that accommodated the Counts of Portugal during the 10th and 11th century and the 15th century Palace of the ´Duques de Braganza`. In Braga, you will find a religious city with more than 2000 years of history. You will visit Portugal’s oldest cathedral, the famous sanctuary and ancient attractions such as the 14th-century Castle of Braga and the ´Arco da Porto Nova´. After lunch we will drive to Barcelos, where we will walk around in the historic center, famous for its colorful ceramics, medieval monuments and for creating Portugal’s national symbol - the rooster. On Thursdays you can get involved in one of the oldest and biggest markets in Portugal.

My husband and I were fortunate enough be staying where Imagine Tours operated. We had a rental car but after hearing how knowledgeable José was about the history, understanding of key local architecture and notable ‘must see’ areas, we opted to take advantage of an offered, fairly priced, all-day tour. We travelled in a well-equipped, comfortable touring van and important to us, as our Portuguese was almost nonexistent, our lovely hosts both possessed excellent English language skills. We learned so much and are grateful we chose to do this tour because we would have missed some essential information about Northern Portugal, had we travelled on our own. Great outfit, could not have asked for more accommodating and delightful hosts. Would definitely have taken another trip had we more time. We highly recommend hooking up with Imagine Tours

Surfing with João is always one of the best surf experience. You have a great time , a lot fun and beside of that you learn so much. You go to uncrowded spots and enjoy some nice beaches. I will come back to improve my surfing skills and have a good time in the water and outside.

We will meet you at our Surf School in Matosinhos Beach, which is one of the best spots in Portugal and the most adapted for surfing lessons. It is also characterized by consistent swells, fine white sand and faces westwards out to the Atlantic Ocean. Sup Lessons in the Ocean or Douro River Tours have a duration of 2 hours, starting with an introductory briefing, followed by specifying warm-up before going to the water. We work with a maximum of 7 surfers per instructor, to provide more safety and personalized aproach.

I love how joyful, friendly and encouraging all the coaches are at Fish Surf School (as well as being very clearly knowledgeable and passionate about surf). They helped me improve my technique after every single lesson and they also make sure to teach you as much theory as you are interested in learning: which board is appropriate for you and why, using windguru to check sea conditions,where to place yourself at sea for the best waves.. you name it! All those necessary skills :D I've tried surf for the first time last year with them and I've definitely developed a very quick obsession..I never imagined there was so much to it! I couldn't recommend it more. Thank you guys!

I started to surf a bit more than a year ago with the surf school Linha de onda. All the teachers are nice fun and very patient. They make you learn and get better but not to forget to relax and have fun :) I would recomend to everyone for all the levels from begginer to the professional surfer! The team of the Fish Surf School is very friendly, they provide you with good equipment. They deal responsible with the Corona Situation, they take your temperature, disinfect the board and the wet suits as well. After a short walk to the beach you can really enjoy the waves at the beach. Our surf teacher was João Cunha. He is a professional fitness instructor that teaches you everything that is necessary. We really enjoyed that lesson, he made us stand on the board and surfing to the beach for the first time. Furthermore he is very emphatic and brings you even more fun with his humorous and enjoyable attitude. Big recommendations for the school and the teacher.
