We enjoyed our trip to Yerette very much. Theo is a wonderful photographer with such a detailed knowledge and love of the hummingbirds and his wife's lunch was delicious. We did find the talks rather long. However, the hummingbirds in the garden were wonderful. Theo was very hospitable and made us feel very welcome and encouraged us to take lots of photos. Thank you so much.

We visited the centre for the day,from our cruise ship and had the most fabulous time. We may well try to go back for a couple of nights at some time in the future, so we can trek some of the many footpaths and see even more. This time we concentrated our efforts on the balcony and the immediately surrounding Gardens and had the most fabulous views.
Lunch was included and was quite simple, but very nice.
We would recommend a visit to anyone, whether they’re birders or not. It will open your eyes to the wonders of nature and provide well deserved support and income to the Trust.

Stephen Broadbridge who is a photographer and naturalist in Trinidad, accompanied us to view the Scarlet Ibis. This memorable trip commenced around 3.00 when we alighted a boat which took us down river through the mangroves. The boat's engine made no sound at all as we slowly went down river, stopping to view various birds and wildlife. We saw numerous heron and other water birds as well as a snake coiled up in a tree and a sleeping ant-eater. As the sun went down we wended our way to a lake where we moored up to watch the Scarlet Ibis arrive to roost. The sight of them arriving at first in small groups and then in swathes, was breathtaking and the sheer beauty of all those beautiful birds was quite moving. Around an hour later we returned up river and this in itself was wonderful. A silent boat in the fading light accompanied by bird song. It had to be one of the most peaceful and beautiful trips I have made in a while and one that will remain with me for a long time.

The view from the Mount is beautiful. You see the central plains and facing south and the beautiful Mountains trails facing north. For a Spiritual journey and to catch a moment of peace you must visit this historic landmark in St. Augustine. It has become a bit run down over the years but this adds to its mystique. You can visit the shop and purchase the Abbey's Homeade Yogurt and Honey or book a room at the Pax Guest house for a peaceful retreat. We have visited the tea shop on many occasions and you get true home made cakes and sandwiches. Most delicious. The area here is great for bird watching and the Pax Guest house back verandah has the birds coming in to you. Beautiful from morning to nightfall. It is not an area to go to alone or without transport but the atmosphere up at the Church and on the grounds is what a soul needs from time to time. You can bring your own candles or purchase from the shop. Say your prayers for a return visit.

Almost nobody was there when I walked through a little after noon. It was not worth staying. Maybe it picks up in the evening or on weekends. It it mostly a vast expanse of grass punctuated by soccer goals. Around the edge are coconut water venders ( mostly sleeping when I was there), a ring of trees and some park benches. The “magnificent seven” mansions at the west side did not accept visitors — an opportunity to advance tourism squandered.

We stopped at these Gardens as part of a shore excursion from our cruise ship. There's an interesting variety of plants in a nicely laid-out setting. We spent about 45 minutes there, which was about right for our group.
It's a beautiful place and well-worth a stop when in Port of Spain.

A cultural and architectural experience you would not want to miss. In central Trinidad in a village with an Indigenous name, Carapichaima, lies, hidden in its' bowels, two Temples magnificently built in the same yard. The first, the largest Hanuman Statue outside of India, 85ft. tall, standing atop its' Temple. Sitting quietly and patiently in front of the Temple is his Camel, painted in Gold. At times, if you are lucky, you see worshipers perform their rituals, taking off their shoes, ringing a bell a few times then walking around the Temple saying their prayers preparing themselves to go into the Temple. As you continue your walk through the yard, you come upon a beautifully designed Yoga Temple. You will marvel to know that everything you see, all the carvings of musicians and elephants were done by hand. These carvings covers the roof and part of the ceiling. Again, you just might be lucky not just to see inside but to go in. Getting to go in is almost magical to experience, to see they use the alignment of the Planets etc. . You must go to experience this.
