Elizabeth Castle

Built on a rocky islet in St Aubin's Bay, Elizabeth Castle has watched over Jersey's main seaway for more than 300 years. At low tide you can walk out along the causeway or, if you want to experience a different way to travel, catch the amphibious Castle Ferry at low or high tide. Elizabeth Castle is the perfect place to spend a day exploring Jersey's history. Climb the battlements dating back to the 1590's, when Sir Walter Raleigh was Governor of Jersey from 1600 until 1603. Explore the grounds which gave refuge to King Charles II during the English Civil War and uncover the bunkers which were re-fortified to command the sea approaches to Jersey during the German Occupation in World War II. Marvel at the hermitage where St Helier is thought to have lived around 550 A.D, take part in. We have a series of safety measures in place to help you enjoy your visit safely during the Covid-19 pandemic. These include a one-way system, local track-and-trace register and restricted group areas.

We would have liked to have visited the maritime museum too but because of time constraints could only see the Occupation tapestry gallery. Inside the building the gentleman whom we purchased our tickets from was so helpful and informative. Wow the tapestry museum is one of the best museums we have visited so informative and with interactive displays really presents a good history of occupation and hardship the islanders had to endure

16 New Street Georgian House

Reviewed By TheresaWestSussex

Bought for £1, this attractive Georgian property has been restored to its former glory. Attention to detail is impressive and the added "horrible history" facts and clues to a certain children's favourite character, mean this history lesson appeals to youngsters as well as the older generation. The volunteers are enthusiastic and knowledgeable, answering questions about the property happily. A very interesting way to spend an hour or so, especially if the weather is not being very kind!

Condor Ferries

Condor Ferries operates a year-round service connecting the UK, Guernsey, Jersey and the port of St Malo in France. Each year we carry over 1 million passengers and 200,000 passenger vehicles on our services.

Reviewed By 146RichardW - Poole, United Kingdom

Living in Poole getting the Condor ferry was ideal. As a walk on passenger we were quickly checked in and our bags taken away to be loaded much the same as an airplane, I had the idea we would be dragging our cases round with us on the boat. Boarding was easy and we were directed to our booked seats. Covid restrictions meant we had plenty of room as seats were blocked off either side of us. Duty free was open as were the cafes. It was a lovely smooth crossing and the time flew by.

St Aubin's Harbour

Reviewed By allanc69 - Thornbury, United Kingdom

Lovely little harbour to walk round with resident ducks on the water. Lots of little bars and restaurant around the harbour where you can stop and have a drink/meal and watch the world go by. The Old Court House Inn has a nice 'sun trap' courtyard at midday in Spring. There's a beach the other side of town which is ideal for the younger ones. Nice 3 mile walk to St Helier along the promenade if you feel up to it.
