Rhodope Narrow-Gauge Railway

Experience the romantic "time travel" back to the 20-th century by taking a trip on the last operational narrow gauge line in Bulgaria with the rare track gauge of 760mm: the line Septemvri - Dobrinishte! The route has a total length of 124,7 km. It connects the Gornotrakiyska Valley with the Rhodope, Rila and Pirin Mountains. On its way it passes through the gorge of Chepinska river, stops at the SPA-Capital Velingrad and heads towards the Avramovo Saddle, which divides Rila and the Rhodopes. This is where the highest railway station on the Balkan Peninsula lies - Station Avramovo, at 1267 m above sea level. The line then follows the river Mesta until it reaches the Razlog Valley, at the foot of the Pirin Mountain, where it stops at Bansko and finally arrives at its final station Dobrinishte. The little train is waiting for you every day, during each season of the year, to show you the magnificient nature and provide you with unforgettable memories!

Lepenitsa Cave

We were so happy to have visited the Lepenitsa Cave next to Velingrad, I wanted to write a nice comment about it!!! It’s a must if in Velingrad!!! You will never regret an experience like this- it’s one of the oldest caves in Bulgaria, 9 mil years old, only marble cave in Bulgaria also and it is a wild cave without light and stairs! They give you rubber boots and a helmet with a flashlight on it , also some warm clothes, because we went with t- shirts , while inside is 9 C! Our guide Nikola is the most experienced guide , who loves his job and cava and he showed us some amazing natural marble statues- a crocodile, a shark, Virgin Mary, it’s amazing! There is a underground river, lake, all kinds of amazing stalactites, we even saw bats there!!! A big must!!!!Take warm clothes and lots of pictures!!!
