Sri Raja Rajeswari Temple

Reviewed By akhilchandu

Sri Rajeshwari Temple in Nellore is famous for Rahukala Pujalu. Devotees lit the lamps in cups made by turning the limes for getting rid of Graha Dosham. Desires of devotees who worship the Goddess thus for 18 Fridays will be fulfilled it is believed. Devotees take the 40 days deeksha before Vijayadasami. After deeksha is completed, devotees bring water from the holy Pinakini River for the Abhishekam of Goddess. Arul Jyothi Nagaraja Murthy who is Sri Rajarajeswari Peetadhipathi located in Arcade district of Tamil Nadu was going to Vijayawada in 1965 and he stopped at Durgamitta in Nellore to take rest for some time. He felt the presence of Goddess in the open land opposite to the place where he was taking rest. Jyothi Nagaraja Murthy then asked his disciple who was living in Nellore to construct a temple in that place. And accordingly a temple was built.
Gradually Lord Ganesh, subrahmanyeswara and Navagraha Temples were constructed in the temple premises. Number of devotees visiting the temple also increased. In 1985 the temple was taken over by Endowment department. Later in 1993 a temple was built for Goddess Gayatri and in 1999 another temple was built for Lord Sundareswara.

Venkatagiri Fort

Reviewed By Jayabharathi - Hyderabad, India

Hi, that was the fantastic place where I started looking around as a kid. I started my education in Elementary school just behind Fort in Centre. My schooling continued in ZP Girls High School beside Police Station. Spent all the time in the Govt Library where Naidu sir was Librarian and Venkatswamy worked as Asst. This library injected me the Reading habit of number of english comics, stories and chandamama in particular. My father worked as Village Devpt Officer in Panchayat Raj and we lived in Karanakamma street. Sri Subba Rao sir who is still residing in Arava Brahmana street use to tutor us various moral things inculcating good habits, manners and the art of living. I an d my brother visited fort both in the town and the Fort in Kasipet wherein the famous Telugu Movie Sitara was shot. My visits to these forts can not be counted. And the famous Siva temple and the big well . I still remember many students studying for their exams in that calm and serene surroundings. In Sravana masam, Ammavari Jaatara was the main deity i worshipped. All the theatres, Tribhuvana, Venkateswara , Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna were the main attractions and about the weekly movies I use to see .My children do love Venkatagiri and visited. I had number of friends , my 10th academic year was 1980-81 . Do mail me if any body still remembers or shared sweet wonderful days with me or with Venkatagiri. at : [email protected]. Thanks
