Top 10 Things to do in Moseley and Kings Heath, England

December 27, 2021 Claudia Navarrete

The geographical heart of England, Birmingham started life as a sixth- century Anglo-Saxon village. Today, much of this city of over a million dates back to post-WWII redevelopment in the 1950s and 60s. Cutting edge museums and galleries, innovative theaters and excellent shopping have contributed to Birmingham's appeal as a weekend break destination. Don't miss the hopping bars and cafes of Gas Street Basin or the fascinating creatures at the National Sea Life Centre.

Finally got round to booking and attending a class and it was just as I had hoped. A relaxing evening where I could learn a new skill in a small group. Lauren has a beautiful shop which made me nostalgic for dressmaking as a child. She was a great teacher and the small group meant she could give individual help as required. Felt I had really learnt some good basics and could be confident to knit at home and try my own projects. Level 2 sounds interesting too! Would highly recommend.

Moseley Park and Pool

Moseley is a fantastic part of Birmingham with its farmers and arts markets, but what makes it particularly special and unique is having at its centre, the Park and Pool. This historic park, with some 300 years of history, is run by a charitable trust. The Park was originally a major part of the gardens of the Moseley Hall estate which were designed by the famous landscape gardener Humphry Repton.

We came to Moseley Park and Pool as part of Birmingham Heritage Week 2020. Not normally open to the public, it is a lovely place with huge grassy areas, trees and a large pond with abundant wildlife - many different bird species, and large fish could be clearly seen in the pool.

The Prince of Wales Moseley

This is a great pub just on the edge of the main street in moseley. It looks, at first glance, like an old fashioned boozer, albeit one which is very nicely presented, with a nice warm feel to it. And in many ways kit is, and this is not a criticism. They decor is traditional, with some great filing work on the floor and the walls. However, it is much more than that, g through to the back and you will find a lovely snug (as like the rest of the indoors, though, it is not big, so space is sometimes scarce). Throughout, the beer is well kept and their cocktails very good. the staff are always helpful and polite. Go back further though and you will find the huge garden, that has a cocktail bar, a very large covered seating area, and is one of the big reasons the PoW is a well-known and loved Birmingham venue, particularly in the summer, where there are often cultural events and shows. It is very popular, and a recommended visit (just don't tell eveyone, it can be packed as it is!)

Highbury Hall is now open 2/3 days a month (check dates) for guided tours. The house of course was the home of the Chamberlain family, and it's a beautiful place to visit. Our tour guide (Dick) was fantastic, and we spent an hour in his company exploring some of the rooms, and listening to the fascinating stories of the Chamberlain family. At the end of the tour, we chatted to David and Pam about the Hall in general, and promised to spread the word about this wonderful building. Five stars all round.
