I had wanted for some time to visit Middleton to see this sculpture , having read how the Choctaw Indians , hearing of the Great Hunger in Ireland in 1847, managed to raise $170 ( a huge sum in those days) & sent it to help relieve the suffering. They themselves had been dispossessed of their sacred lands & forcibly moved to Oklahoma during one of the harshest winters on record , & many of them had died en route. In spite of their own suffering , they had the generosity & kindness of spirit to remember the starving Irish & this monument is a fitting tribute to them. It is really beautiful & the stainless steel feathers reflect the colours of the sun as the light changes. It is situated in Bailic Park off the East Cork Parkway N25 , turn off at the L 3621 & it’s right beside you. Congratulations & well done to the Irish artist Alex Pentek for this fitting tribute to those Choctaw Indians.

Attended the Dessert Trolley Demo in Ballymaloe last Tuesday. Had a fabulous enjoying afternoon. I often take a trip to the school for demos. Twice to the Afternoon tea one, twice to the Cheese and Buttermaking one, took in a Christmas one a couple of times, so was delighted to spot the Award winning Dessert Demo. It's always a guarantee of learning and enjoying. From Dublin I travelled to Cork, booking an overnight stay in the wonderful Hayfield Manor, and travelling on at leisure to Shanagarry the next day. The weather was glorious and on arrival the place was a buzz. Greeted with tea/coffee, elderflower juice and sooòoo freshly baked succulent Sponge cake, scones, and healthy tray bake. And the wonderful Rory serving up. He is such a nice man, and not a bit pretentious. Social distancing was perfect, with masks and visors being used. Then a stroll into the food store and shop. Gorgeous jams, some just made with in season produce, so a variety of 6 jars bought, some yogurt for my Husband, mad e from milk from their jersey cows, sourdough bread, lemon drizzle cake, were my choices this time. They have their butter for sale, but I make my own. And a selection of in season veg. Little bags of organic potatoes which were delicious. The course itself was given by RJ R, head chef at Ballymaloe House. He was delightful and lovely little stories told throughout. Everything is easy to follow and make. My favourite being the Coffee Dessert but not the Cariggeen Moss. Great little tips given. It was a perfect afternoon. I recommend everyone should attend a demo at some stage. The social aspect is good, and it's easy to mix if like me I go on my own. You get to taste everything made, and little breaks with refreshments. So take time out , take a little trip to Ballymaloe, stay over enroute, visit Kilkenny shop and Shanagarry Pottery just beside the school, and a stroll along the beach at Garryvoe.its all worth it. Thank You all at Ballymaloe

This is a stunning sculpture full of beauty and respect made with deep gratitude for the Chocktaw people to commemorate their great act of kindness to the destitute people of Ireland during the Famine.
