I could not see the sunrise as the mountain was covered by thick foggy and drizzles. The weather was very cold. The toilet service fee is higher than others. If you could bear the pee, you can do it and find meals with cheaper price around Pasir Berbisik (Whispering sands) area. To view the perfect sunrise, you must visit Mt. Bromo in Summer (June - August).

Mount Semeru Volcano

Recommend to go here on fasting month, or else it can get quite full with visitors. The mountain is beautiful! Especially the hidden treasure of ranukumbolo lake. Just a piece of heaven on earth.
From Malang, you need to go to Tumpang, which take about 1.5 hours. From Tumpang, you will need to rent jeep to go to Ranu Pane village (about another 1.5 hours). Personal vehicle is not allowed. You start the trekking from that village (registration is mandatory). The track is not that hard (mmm we hire porter to bring our carrier and tent, and the food), bit quite far tho. It takes about 4 hours walk to get to the lake Ranukumbolo. Because I really lo e walking in the forest, I really enjoy my trekking.
We spend the night at the lake. Beware, it can be really cold. For us Indonesian, we are not use to cold weather.
The next morning, we continue hike to Kalimati. The track starting to be quite dusty and the forest is a bit more open. And also, there ia quite some elevation going on. Another 4 hours walk (for normal people who is not true hikers.. lol) to get to Kalimati. You will also pass a field of purple flower (bloom in summer), which is actually a parasite plant, bit really beautiful. Haha.., what an irony.
We put our tent in kalimati, trying to get some sleep because by 12 am, we will start the hike to on top of Semeru mountain, Mahameru.
The hike is harddddd But worth every walk and every blood and tears. It took us 7 hours to get to the peak. We were quite slow. Usually it takes around 4-5 hours.
The view from the peak is amazinggg. All clouds. The mountain height is 3726 mdpl.
You have to get down before 10 am, because the mountain will spray toxic smoke.
The journey going down only took around 1-2 hours haha..and we are really exhausted but proud and amaze by His greatness.
What a journey!
I recommend to go to Ranukumbolo if you dont want to hike to the peak, which is forbidden actually

From malang city, with car the journey will take around 3 hours to reach a small port. First go to goverment building (idk the office name) to get the permit. Pay around 5$ (it's official fee actually, not somekind of bribe), getting a guide (it's a mandatory) and if u will spend the night on the island (which i recommended) prepare to bring water (and of course, a tent)
Hiking around 90-120minutes (the path could be muddy, especially in rain season) and beautiful hidden saltwater lake. It's very pristine water, beautiful white sand and monkeys, lots of monkeys there

Amazing beach that I ever been there. Just like kutha beach Bali. White sands and blue water. Be careful when going into this area. Because the road is damaged when entering this area. Especially when it rains. But over all, I think I gonna there anymore.

Located near Alun Alun Merdeka or Malang City Square, this was my next place to,visit. I was told that non-muslims are not allowed inside.
I was glad that I visited the biggest mosque in Jakarta when I was there last week. Perhaps, they have stricter rules here in Malang regarding non-muslims.
I took several pictures outside this beautiful mosque before moving on.

There is nothing special, really, about the Waterfalls. The Rainbow Waterfall is similar to any other Waterfalls out there. But the only difference, a major difference, is that you would be able to see silhouettes or mirage or beams or whatever you'd call it of Rainbows. Amazing! you'd be able to take photos with the rainbow that is seen faintly (or sometimes vividly) through the sunlight.

definitely worth to take a visit if you are in (Southern) Malang and also visit nearby Beaches. The beach itself was nice but busy on a Sunday, and there was a bit too much garbage. This is unfortunately the case for many places in Indonesia!
