Lewiston (English pronunciation: /ˈluːɪstən/, French pronunciation: /ˈluːɪstə/; officially the City of Lewiston, Maine) is the second largest city in Maine and the most central city in Androscoggin County. The city borders the coastal sideways of the Gulf of Maine and is south of Augusta, the state's capital and north of Portland, the cultural hub of Maine. It is one-half of the Lewiston-Auburn Metropolitan Statistical Area, commonly referred to as "L.A." or "L-A." Lewiston exerts a significant impact upon the diversity, religious variety, commerce, education, and economic power of Maine. It is known for a relatively low cost of living, substantial access to medical care, and an extremely low violent crime rate. While the dominant language spoken in the city is English, it is home to the largest French-speaking population in the United States (by population) while it is second to St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, in percentage of speakers.

Was in Lewiston for a few days for the Bates Dance Festival, saw this on the map and decided to check it out for a morning walk. Well maintained trails through the woods, an open field with wild flowers and pollinators going wild. Well worth checking out. We did notice that dogs are not allowed. It's too bad for the dogs and dog owners (I'm one, but we were dogless this trip), but probably a little easier on the wildlife.

I am in the L/A area for business about 30 days a year. I stay at the two local hotels by the river and always end my day with a walk.
I do walk on the Auburn Riverwalk, but then cross over the former railroad bridge to walk back along the Lewiston Riverfront walkway to the bridge on Main Street in Lewiston back across to Auburn.
It is a nice comfortable walk. In the early spring, the falls of the Androscoggin River are amazing.
There is a nice Veterans Park on the Lewiston side by the falls.

This Bacilica is so beautiful, like stepping into a European church. The mass is said in Latin, which is so beautiful, it took me back to when I was a child. Of course they have English mass as well. I was in awe of the beautiful interior. A must see for those who desire to be part of something beautiful.

We came for the rock hunting. Got distracted by the tranquility and nature. There's a good mix of activities from dog walking, rock hunting, mountain biking, etc. A few families were using the area to teach science to their youngsters which was great to see (even if they scared off all the tadpoles). You can cover biology, ecology, and geology easily in the same park. The higher deeper water area has a lot of fish, think they are bull heads. Or cat fish? Not too sure. There's a ledge that is prefect to lay on and watch the fish and pond ripples. The lower shallower water has an incredible number of frogs/tadpoles. I think they are green frogs from the banjo sounding call. Also saw a few ground critters and several species of birds including a woodpecker. As for the rock hunting we found a lot of mica, some black tourmaline, some matrixed garnet but nothing jewel quality or green tourmaline. To get to this area you park near a military installation which is a bit unusual. The walk is uphill and has stray rocks in the path so be careful if walking is difficult for you.

The brewery is in a repurposed mill---in fact, there are dozens of old mill-turned-new-businesses in Lewiston. Small tasting/drinking room out front seating maybe a dozen people. Looks like they give afternoon tours--and privately arranged tours. We just stopped in for a look-see and a flight. Okay beer. Looked like a fun place. Might be easier to buy their stuff at the store tho.

Looking for a new mini golf course to try out, we went to Taber's and had a great time on this course that has a wonderful lake view and is meticulously maintained. A fun, challenging course, it is relatively inexpensive to play ($6.75 for adults). On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, it was not crowded as it is not on a highway/busy street. There is a 19th hole to try for a free game. They offer a twilight league if you live in the area! Adjacent is a driving range and a food stand for ice cream and burgers and fried food (we did not try). There are several picnic tables and many were eating and enjoying the view. Great out of the way place to enjoy a beautiful day.

Veteran's Park has become a great spot for honor the local veterans of the surrounding communities. It's located along the Androscoggin River, near the falls, and is a unique attraction paying tribute to those who have defended and died for this country. They have some very nice marble stones with names engraved of veterans from the area along with military memorabilia from different decades of war. It is a great spot to relax and enjoy the area.

Perfect for families of all generations, Lost Valley has trails of all abilities, a huge learn to turn program, a practice area with magic carpet, Terrain Park and base lodge with wifi, concessions, arcade, dining area and bar. Lost Valley also has snow tubing at The Maine Family Snow Tube Park, Snow Shoe & Cross Country Ski Trails and is accessible by Snowmobile via the local Auburn trail system.

I just love Lost Valley, it's a special place, the place my son learned to snowboard. It's the perfect mountain, it's local, easy accessible, the people who work there bust their butts and really. Are about their community and customers!!! They are involved with special handicap skiing, they worked very hard this past year to remain open, I can't image Auburn without Lost Valley!!! They deserve the best!!! Thank you Lost Valley for everything and the memories!!

An interesting presentation of drawings, photographs, paintings, and memorabilia relating too Marsden Hartley, and a worthwhile adjunct to the major current show at Colby. The performance art exhibit on the main gallery upstairs was of no interest. The museum entrance is not adequately signed.
