Lake Muskoka

This is a stunning area of the world. It is awful to drive to in peak hour Toronto traffic. But once you're there, it's well worth the effort.
Meandering through the little towns, finding Waterfalls and little trails. Awesome place to explore with our two super adventurous little boys.
Make sure to go to the Cranberry Farm... Johnston's I think it's called. This was a highlight for us.
Oh, and the big Muskoka chair in Gravenhurst... Doesn't look much sitting in a carpark, but looks awesome in pictures!

Sawdust City Brewing Co.

Located in Gravenhurst Ontario, the gateway to Muskoka, Sawdust City Brewing Company is dedicated to the art and science of creating exceptional craft beers. We produce traditional ales in an array of styles, but there is nothing traditional about the flavour. Our brewmaster, Sam Corbeil, and his talented team create award-winning exciting beers that expand the borders of traditional flavour profiles. The rule at Sawdust City is there are no rules. We are just here to make great beer. In addition to our six year-round core brands, we brew exceptional seasonal offerings, exciting limited batch brews, barrel-aged and experimental beers. Of course all of our beers are all-natural and made with only the finest ingredients. We don't take ourselves too seriously as our labels express and hey, beer should be fun! What we do take seriously is the quality of our beers, which we are sure you will enjoy.

Having converged on Gravenhurst for a New Years get together, 14 from different cities... mostly from south of the border, stopped in for a pre-meal drink and had a great time. Several tried the Flight which provides a choice of five of their offerings. The choices are quite diverse and are served by a friendly and accommodating staff.
I am a bit of a traditionalist when choosing my drink, Guinness, but was intrigued by one of the beer descriptions and was equally surprised by the quality and taste of the Imperial Stout I chose. What a surprise to find such a great stout in such a small town. Regulars and visitors to Gravenhurst should do themselves a favor and stop i and taste the products of the Sawdust City Brewing Co., and should you fancy a “journey”, I would suggest the Long Dark Journey to Uranus.

We were four in our group for the lunch cruise. We found the staff to not be friendly, not even acknowledging or welcoming while we boarded. Our friend was celebrating a birthday and an anniversary which was indicated when we booked the trip and not acknowledged. The cruise was great while seeing all the beautiful sites of Lake Muskoka.

The discovery centre is quite basic. There are parts that you can see they've tried hard, they've just not kept on top of it. It needs a serious clean, particularly the upstairs section.
The best part is the old boats out in the dock. Stunning craftsmanship.

Bethune Memorial House National Historic Site

For anyone that has spent anytime in China, visiting Bethune's home is a must. Bethune is so revered there that it is not uncommon for people in China to mention his name immediately after learning someone is Canadian.
The museum is tasteful and informative with plenty of interesting details. I went with a 6, 9, 11, and 14 year old. Each were captivated by the short video documentary about Bethune.
The area also makes a nice little road trip from Toronto--especially in the fall--as the town is gorgeous with many good places to eat. Though I have heard about Bethune's heroism for many years when I lived in China, seeing Gravenhurst in the Fall certainly underlines his sacrifice.

WOW!! Where should I start...three of us came here today not sure what to expect, as two of us were first time mountain bikers. We had so much fun!! Mike and Sadie were super helpful and informative on what trails we would like the best. The trails were easily identifiable and were rated appropriately for their difficulty. I have a feeling we'll be back before this trip is done. Looking for an adventure? Be sure to check this place out.

This little art gallery is well worth the stop if you like to see the creation of local artists. The place has the full range of artistic pieces (paintings, sculpture, mixed media, jewelry, textile art). The building in which it is housed is also very nice.
